All this tells me is that you're not a very good tipper. That's not even 15% (close, but under).

He threw his drink in her face, so management would kick him out without having to pay the bill ;)

I had a buddy that went into chinese restaurant, ordered a meal & when he was nearly done.Pulled a fly off the window sill & placed it in his nearly finished meal. He called the waitress over & showed her the fly in his dinner.
He got our whole table dinner & beer for free:thumb:

Wait a minute...it's actually 15% BEFORE tax. Bill was $18.75 so 15% on that is $2.81 which he rounded up, plus the tax which was $2.25, total $24. Now THAT'S what I call tipping Canadian style!

This reminded me of a comment made by a PST expert at a presentation I was at last week.

When the HST was introduced one of the loudest complainers were the restaurant industry.

Well the comment was that now that we are going back to the PST in April some in the restaurant industry are realizing maybe the HST is not so bad afterall.

1. There is a lot of day to day expenses that have PST and when the HST was in place they could recover the tax but with PST they cannot. For example just about any supplies except for food.

2. Most chain restaurants spend at least $500K to $2M every three to five years to freshen up. All of those expenses have PST that they cannot recover

3. The fear from restaurant servers is that their tips will decrease because many people (like myself) tip on top of the total bill including the tax. So with the tax coming down to 5% from 12% their tips will decrease.

Interesting.

With respect to the original posters comment on the price of food at Earls .... the only time I go to Earls, Joeys, Catus, Milestone, Browns etc is when I am with a client and we are certainly NOT there for the food.

All those white people restaurants like Cactus Club, Earls, Red Robin, etc...are all overpriced food. Best to make your own, or at least up the ante and go for a steak at the Keg!

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
The Keg sucks.
Used to be a decent place where you'd get the salad bar, steak, potatoe, mushroom or fried onions, veggies and bread for ~$30.00.
Now it's $35-40 for a terrible piece of meat (the last rib eye I had here was 60% fat) with a potatoe. They charge for everything else.
By the time your done and you throw in a bottle of wine, its $150.00 for 2 people and there are way better places for that.

Absolutely agree.

Unless I am going for lunch with clients I prefer to find some family run restaurants.

For example when I venture out to Port Coquitlam to met with a group of associates in my line of business we always finish our meeting with dinner at a small Italian/Greek joint call San Remo. We used to go to Earls across the street but it was too loud and pricey.

They have a $20 NY steak that is fantastic and way more enjoyable than any steak at the Keg or other chain restaurants.

You actually wrote a post to bitch about a $24 bill on a review board dedicated to reviewing $200/hr pussy?

Was the price hidden on the menu?

I have always calculated the tip on the cost of the service/product including alcohol, Why would I tip on the governments's cut? Besides, just taking the the amount of the tax and rounding up is an effortless way to calculate a tip.

That's cause you make over 250/h. Also were talking about a bloody cheeseburger and coke here.

Mmmm cactus club! I used to work at cactus!!! Creole Chicken and raincoast green salad is my favorite! Yummmyyyyy ...

24 dollars isn't bad for a meal out now a days, in my opinion.

Wait till you go on a date.

Seriously, 24 isn't too bad for one person. Just don't do it all the time.
