The first POTUS George Washington had slaves....that being said that has nothing to do with the Declaration of Independance and the subsequent documents drawn up and legislated by USA as a nation when they achieved independance from England...such as the Constitution.

Slavery got dealth with via the Civil War and whilst slavery is the common answer of why the Civil War happened there is a lot more to it than that.

Well, with the Declaration of Independence saying all men are created equal etc. and having been signed by over 30% slave owners, clearly the definition of all men was a bit narrower then than it is 236 years later.

Canada didn't become a sovereign nation until 1867.

I have worked in the USA and have developed many long lasting friendships. I think its a low blow to throw rotten tomatoes at any country while celebrating their Independence. I would be really offended if they did the same to us on July 1st.

I love the American people as they have always been nothing but polite and friendly to me on my visits. Good thread Bart! :thumb:

I agree, in vegas atm. Wether i am at a poker table, swimming pool, or club, when people find out i am a canadian from vancouver. They always have positive things to say about canada and vancouver.

maybe its the fact i dont bring up slavery, as to why i make friends so easy here
