I am part of a nice xmas ritual where a group of us go for a walk and then lunch.
Got a ritual myself the last 6 years. About 1300 a Gulfstream with a couple of families arrives at the South Terminal. I pick them up in my bus and take them to Whistler. A week later I go to Whistler, pick them up and take them back to their Gulfstream. They give me lots of money and everybody has a happy christmas. :D:D:nod:

Seeing as I am not religious at all, I can't seem to get myself excited about Christmas. I feel like a hypocrite or something if I try to really celebrate it. And these days, Christmas isn't even about Christmas any more anyways... it's a marketing tool for all the retailers.

i experience an almost constant musical earworm. usually it'll be the last thing i heard, playing over and over in my head until something comes along to replace it. generally its something i can enjoy or ignore.

then comes xmas.

i step into starbucks or safeway or wherever for 5 seconds - and rudolph the gd reindeer or frosty the mf snowman is stuck in my head for the next 4 hours.

by the time this inane season ends i'm glad santa has never brought me that shotgun i keep asking for.

I love it and really don't give a sh*t that you don't.
I'm sure you do, but probably only because it means you get to ditch the red dress and put on a red suit.:D

A time I get to spend with family and friends is what counts for me. As for presents, my little nephews opening gifts is what does it for me. I agree that Christmas has become way too commercialized. I used to get stressed out about holidays (what to get various family gifts, who is hosting the dinner, etc.) but now, for me its a time to relax, drink rum and eggnog, bourbon and eggnog, spiced whiskey and eggnog and watch the wood fire crackle in the fireplace as I doze off into my turkey coma. A lot of people hate Christmas, I do not blame them. I think Christmas is what you decide to make of it.

Different holidays have different meanings for each person. Christmas is not for everyone. I don't think Christmas is a sickening orgy of consumerism nor a joyous time to celebrate humanity. I think its valu eis that it is a day where the majority of the world takes a respite and has a day to relax and do the things they want to do. For many, it is a day to spend with their families, whether by choice or obligation. Pretty horrible thing to do to spend time with your loved ones.

For those who are uber cynical you have that right but don't deride those who enjoy it and vice versa. If you give gifts, try to find ones with impact and meaning, regardless of price tag. Enjoy the day. Merry Fucking Christmas :p

Also, perhaps i am stated the obvious, but isn't it ironic that somebody with the handle jesuschrist was the one starting this thread? :pound:

Christmas isn't his real birthday you know...
Birthday or not, he and Santa Claus are the iconic figures associated with the holiday. I was just sayin' .

Now Jesus Christ is banned for a week for re-opening a new thread in a forum that had been moved. So get this he comes out of Perbatory on December the 25th. A re-birth so it seems. Seems fitting. Just waiting for his next two week ban around Easter...or for at least 3 days on Good Friday....lol
...and so he has risen! :pound:

I ignore all holidays and birthdays ... a day is a day. Have never understood the 'special' days ??
ditto.... and valentines day on top of them all is kind of way too mooshy and digusting... for me... ok ok I dont ignore them.... Theres a little sparkle deep down in me somewhere for the holidays but I really have to dig for it as I dont look forward to them too much either. I love buying presents for children... just the magic in the whole experience for them santa claus.. and all... but thats pretty much it
