I think about it this way: it is a service so you should tip as in any other service: 10% - 15% depending on how you were served.
Do you tip your lawyer or accountant?

Well I am using the word service in a slightly different manner. Your lawyer is providing you a service but that kind of service is different from the service provided by an escort or a waiter/waitress. You tip for services where the servant's attitude has a big effect on the outcome of your experience. If you had a lawyer with a shitty attitude if (s)he wins the case you don't give a fuck about his attitude towards his/her clientèle. But a waitress no matter how good she is can't serve you well if she does not have a good attitude.

I don't know if I made my point clearly enough. But please point out if I am being inconsistent.

I guess my point is some SPs' hourly rate are on par or above lawyers and accountants and I don't see the need to tip. A small gift perhaps but it's not like they are making minimum wage like a waitress.

But this is definitely not why I tip.

I don't tip because I want to boost the waitress's wage (with that logic I should not tip because I make very little money myself. On a yearly basis she might even make more than me) I tip because I want to reward good service and/or punish bad service. And as I said I tip in cases where my servant's attitude has a great effect on my overall experience.

I would agree with that theoretically but the expectation is that the waitress will be compensated for their low hourly rate with tips.

No but you tip your waitress or bartender....and they don't serve you naked~~! lol

If a client wishes to tip it is much appreciated. However I wish to second Nina's comment that if a client repeats and treats me with continued respect that is the BEST tip I could wish to receive!!

There are SOME clients who actually believe that because they are on this site a great deal that they should get a "discount" on their services. They barter and nearly threaten to give a bad review if you don't give a discount. I wouldn't expect those guys to tip...but I also won't see those particular clients again as I am offended that someone would take advantage of me or any other provider in that manner.

To me the best tip is a smile and a sincere compliment...with a repeat!!

I'm not a big fan of tipping in most circumstances, hair stylist, barista and SP normally don't get a tip from me. I have however tipped SPs on occasion once as much as 25% of the rate because the service was that good! This is a rare occurrence though. I prefer to give a gift to show my appreciation. My hair stylist likes German Whites so at Christmas she gets a bottle, she's the owner of the studio and really does she need the $5 from my semi annual hair cut? Hey I'm old and the hair doesn't grow that fast any more. When I showed up with a wine that she told me about almost a year before she was very happy.

A gift shows that an effort has been made to find something that is 'just right'. How much thought and effort goes into an extra forty bucks?

I`ll Tip when I can`t brake a twenty, for a charge of $ 150, ( 8 x $20) I`ll say keep the change to my regulars.
I prefer bringing a nice bottle of red.
Or a nice btl of gewerstraminer. (White)
And Also I like to repeat with my favorites.
I`ll bring Hors d`horves for a little extra at times, to pair up with the wine.
Umm Sex and food, thats the life baby !!.[/I]

I myself dont tip SP's....though most times...say like 95% of the time I got to Sugarland I bring the gal flowers...it is a gift and something that makes the gal feel special and happy...EVERY gal likes to get flowers...from a wife to a GF to an SP.

With regards to handing over extra cash...nope I dont do it....the rate/cash I am paying is payment enough....my buddy d_duck tips though....when the gal gives him his special CIM finish....thankfully he stopped mentioning his special finish a while back LOL

OK, I really don't have anything useful to add to this thread, but each time I see the title, for some reason all I can think of is tipping an SP over cow-tipping style... It's a very strange mental image (especially since it makes me wonder why an SP is sleeping standing up in the middle of a field).
