I always wonder why people feel the need to speed excessivlely?

Are they always late, think their driving is better than everyone else's or is it just way of showing how special they think they are? Because a lot of the driving I see tells me most of them are special.

Like I said, going 110mph to me is like a walk on a sunday afternoon in the park.
At the track I hit 110mph at the eighth mile. That's half way down the Quarter mile folks.
Anyone wanna guess what it is at the trap? That's the end of the Quarter mile.

It's MOTHA FUCKIN FAST!!!!!! :jaw:

Nhra license means you go atleast 9’s... 110 1/8 Im guessing high 130’s top end unless it’s a turbo car that back half’s like crazy... I need to get me some proper tires last time out I trapped 126 @12.42... traction is a fallacy on 20’s

Yaa, nooo, um, sorry I guess? I really wasn't trying to brag about being a professional driver, which is why I never mentioned it when I started this thread asking if anyone here has ever been pulled over on hwy 1. I'm aware it sounds cheesy to say "I'm a professional driver", but if you read the posts before I mentioned it, you'll probably see why I felt it was necessary to clarify. Also, I anticipated much what the responses would be (you're an idiot, you think you know it all, I see guys like you die every day) and while those all have some merit I'm sure, that's not what I was looking for.

I don't expect anyone to understand my position, any more than I would understand what it's like being you doing your job that you are really good at. I'm sure a lot of carpenters have to listen about this great trick grandpappy taught you when building a shelf, and pastry chefs hearing about old Aunty Eve's amazing biscuits, and just as they would be generally polite: yes, I understand there are risks associated with speeding (which I'm sure none of you ever do) and if I was a perfect citizen I wouldn't speed, and I am a bad person. There is the potential that I could injure or kill someone and that is always to be respected, and only through a lot of training and countless hours and some luck and the grace of God I've never ever had an accident in all my years so far. Okay?

So, um, is there anyone who has got a speeding ticket on highway 1 in the last 10 years? Still nobody? K. That's my answer then I guess, and thanks all again for your replies and suggestions.

I've had two in the last 8 years, and been pulled over 4 times......I drive a black diesel, with an empty gun rack in the back window, so you can probably do the math.
The third and fourth time I got pulled over I was on my way to attend a forest fire, which the cops already knew about, they handed back my drivers lisence, and fire mans I.D. And gave me just a warning.

No, mostly you are dangerous....but you guys keep thinking that. Please keep it off the roads. You may think you are safe and skilled but you don't know what the other driver is about to do, generally followed by death and mayhem.
Easy now folks. I admit I did something very foolish. I don't need a bunch of perbites to pile on
about it especially when I said in my original post that I NEVER DID THAT AGAIN.
That was ten years ago. I had a sudden urge of testosterone poisoning
for a few seconds and it won me a trip to court. You think I was proud of that? Come on. :tsk:

If you get that sucker to hook up at 126mph you'll be right in the mid to low ten's . Nice stuff!!!
Try the Nitto drag radial tires at low psi, they traction out very well unless you wanna go full on Bias drag slick.
I hated those tires for Super pro. Scares the shit outta you when your ass is trying to pass your
nose all the time. BUT WHAT A RUSH MAN!!! LOL!!
One thing I must say though with front wheel drive, (of course I'm assuming) this is what you are driving that you'll
never get that rush where you can't even see that track ahead of you at the launch cuz yer front wheels are a foot
or more in the air.

Super pro when I ran it, yes. Laundry was next but I blew my budget on pooning. LOL!!
I take it you run sport compact/ import. Some fine little hair dryers out there that can burn the
hides off most wheels today. You're right you need some meatier tires bro but don't forget FIRST
to upgrade all that supports that power you want to put into traction. Speed and safety cost bucks!

If you don't you'll turn your car into a twizzler and possibly yourself And that aint' funny especially if it involves the wall.

To uncleg. Since when does having an NHRA ticket make you a professional driver? Good Lord.
You are kidding right? Way less than 1% of the population of the Earth holds an NHRA ticket my man.
Do you realize how much effort goes into making those cars absolutely safe as possible?
Before each and every race you MUST go through Tech. Where they inspect your vehicle top to bottom,
and front to back to make sure you are up to snuff. Or you go home if not. Tell me that's not professional.

Yes it means professional DRAG racer... I'd like to see you dispute that with the likes of John Force or even one of his
daughters. I do believe they are professional drivers (out of my league of course) but I/they still had to qualify for
that type of license working up through the ranks. You don't get to go that fast without it, same as you don't get
to drive a class one licensed vehicle without proper licensing and working yourself up through the "ranks"
to achieve it. I also still hold my Class one License endorsed with air. Haven't used it in over twenty years.

My whole point about this "professional" driving stuff is that I just wish more people were able to experience it
as it would round them out as better than the average drivers in many ways.

I remember seeing those between Trenton and Kingston......
It tells you how much you can afford to speed.

I drove to Montreal and back last year.
The longest drive was through Ontario were the speed limit on a 2 lane divided highway as 90 km......:frusty::frusty:

Different strokes for different folks......not a reference to BDSM. If you are going to classify yourself as a professional, at anything, it helps to act like it. As to your original question...I had a ticket on HWY 1 once.....speeding. Beat it in court with the cop there....I was more of a professional then he was. That is the only moving violation on the highway I have ever had. I had a moving violation in Vancouver....making a U-turn....beat that in court as well, with the cop there.....again it helps to be a professional.

At the end of the day HWY 1 or any other street/road for that matter is not a closed track and as a professional I'd suggest you have to drive with consideration that not everybody has a Class 1 and a million miles under their belt, or is a licensed drag racer..or formula one driver...take your pick.

Wow good old Domestic. Man I ran that class in the 90's with a beat up old Dodge dart. Ran 12.50's all day long
at 107 Mph on 26 x 10 x 15's. 60 ft was 1.53 and got the wheels in the air maybe two or three times. Tons of fun.
What is the overall circumference of those tires you got on?

Absolutely and well said. My only fear driving on public hwy's is not knowing what the guy
next to me is thinking, feeling, experiencing in life. Is he/she stressed out or still not getting
the message about texting while driving.

The worst thing for driving hazards are those who are NOT paying attention to what they are
doing while operating a motorvehicle. I don't know what the stats are for crashes and mayhem
on the Hwy's are for distracted accident related collisions, like the infamous texting thing
but I'm sure it's pretty high.

You're very right uncleg that not everyone has had those experiences of class one,
drag racing and so on. All they have to do to become better drivers is to use COMMON
sense and a few smarts.

Btw, just read that link you posted. Things I mentioned about being a safe driver are listed there too.
i guess I've learned to do some things right. Does wisdom really come with age? LOL!!

@yvr. Any idea what caused that crash in the photo you posted? That is pure mayhem and
just plain ugly. Looking at that tree to the right it appears to be in fall or near winter plumage.
Being Ontario it would not surprise me if that was in winter and was weather
related to some degree.

Thanks uncleg, it says that the traffic had slowed down for an accident a K up the road but that's it.

Still under investigation.

Current setup is a 305/35/20 out back so 28.6”. Going to go with a 27 10.5 15
Correction on my setup with the old Dart. Looked up some records I have and it's the
same size tires you are gonna use.

They were the Nitto drag radials. Really nice hookup but remember to air them WAY
down and drill holes to screw the tire bead to the rim then get them rebalanced.
You don't wanna blow a bead on the launch.
Oh yah, get radial inner tubes as well for those bro.

I hope I gave you some info you can use. If you wanna ask any questions that I might be
able to help you with shoot me a pm. It'd be great to shoot the shit with a fellow gear head. :thumb:

Forgot to ask you about this one Aesthetics, You hit 126mph and only achieved a mid 12?
Wow man you must have flamed half the track then like in the old days with sling shot
dragsters Don Garlits used to drive.
That would be a hell of a ride.

I'm Gonna start a new thread in the lounge for fun!!

Haven't read the rest of the thread yet so don't know if anyone has pointed this out, but that one West Van cop with the reputation for seizing cars, has retired and now works as a consultant for getting people off of traffic tickets...

Hwy 1 East towards Hope going through the curves drops to 80 or 90, can't remember. Going from 120+ down to posted speed always catches someone. Myself included. It's a cash cow with a LEO waiting to take your $.

Minivan RCMP dark red colour is always working the HOV enforcement in both directions usually West of Gagliardi. I'm surprised how many think they can get away with it

West Van always has a car near the Horseshoe Bay exit. Speed is 50 km/hr. One cop has a reputation of seizing cars and apparaently an off duty RCMP got his seized too.

On Highway 1, none. Touch wood.
I have seen a few pulled over, one had the flat bed ready to haul it away. So it probably happens, but you are correct, not very often. I've seen radar,, and been ticketed, on side streets though. :(

i never speed of course so i do not have to worry about a ticket for that. But i do have a "friend" that usually rides his motorcycle 20-30kph over the limit. Hwy 5 goes to 120kph out of Hope so flying up the "hill" at 130-150 is easy. One summer this "friend" was cruising the hwy between Merritt and Kamloops at an average speed of 160kph.

For me i am very wary of my speed and stay out of the roadside impound zone speed. Crazy how so many do not appear to know about this as i routinely see them speeding on the Sea to Sky and South Frazer Perimeter Road. For once a cop was in right place at right time. On SFPR, speed limit 80kph. 18wheeler stopped at light in right lane so a car then me on bike move to left to pass. Light changes and car in front gets past the truck then moves right. Some asshat is riding my tail so as soon as i pass the car on right i move over. Was doing about 100kph then. Car behind just FLYS past. Followed shortly by a Ford Explorer. Figured it was a cop by the 3 antenna on rear. Sure enough mr. Asshat is pulled over. HA! HA!

On another note. How many people know you can turn left on a red light here? If you are turning from a 2way street. Example. Top of Beatty at Cambie bridge. If way is clear you can turn left at the red.
