Twin offer on the table.
Daniel & Henrik Sedin will mull the Canucks offer before free agency opens on Wednesday.

The Sedins' future in Vancouver is on the table as Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis presented the Sedin twins with a contract offer before leaving Sweden to return to Vancouver.

Gillis made the trip to Sweden to speak with Daniel and Henrik in person. According to CKNW in Vancouver agents JP Barry and Claes Elefalk will now consider the offer, which will not be made public.

"We met for a few hours this morning," JP Barry told Vancouver radio station CKNW on Tuesday morning. "Mike and (assistant GM) Lawrence Gillman are flying home now. We are considering their position today."

Two weeks ago it was reported that the Canucks were ready to offer a pair of 12-year deals worth a combined $128 million.

"It was great that they flew over just to meet us. We sat down and talked for a while. They wanted to let us know how they feel about the situation," Henril Sedin told Aftonbladet. "We have to wait and see what happens. We have told them what we want, but we don't agree on all the details."

Daniel, a left-winger, scored 31 goals and 51 assists last season, while Henrik, a centre, had 22 goals and 60 assists for an identical 82-point campaign.

Gillis is also trying to ink star goalie Roberto Luongo to an extension, as the club's captain is set to make US$7.5 million next season in the final year of his contract.

"Our focus is trying to get our own players signed first," Gillis said. "Beyond that we will explore every opportunity we have ... but we have budgeted for our own players plus some other significant additions, so we'll see how successful we are on July 1."

The NHL free-agent period opens at 9am on Wednesday.

Jay Bouwmeester has officially signed with the Flames, so there's one less option for the Canucks if the Twins don't resign.

I like the deal proposed to The Twins.
6 Mil each leaves some room to sign a couple more good players for this year.
Now they need to sign a top 6 forward, such as Gaborik or Havlat, and a mobile defenseman.

Assuming the first 5 years of the Sedins’ contract proposal is evenly distributed, this works out to $8.6 million per season during the first part of that contract. Because of the way the current CBA works, the contract amounts cannot be lowered by more than $4.3 million from year to year. With $21 million due in the last 7 years of the contract, it’s possible it was structured so that the Sedins are due $5 million in year 6, $3 million in years 7 to 11, and $1 million in year 12. If they intend to retire by, say, age 36 (year 7 of the contract), then perhaps they are in actuality looking at a contract worth around $50 million over 7 years - an annual salary close to their market value and at a term that will take them to retirement (with the remaining years tacked on to get to Gillis’ ideal cap hit). From here, it’s easier to see the difference between the Sedins and Gillis’ original position of $27.5 million over 5 years ($5.5 million per season).

I know I used a lot of assumptions in this post, but the logic would remain the same regadless. If the gap between the two parties is $22.5 million in real dollars and an extra 2 years in term, can they bridge it before tomorrow? Are they willing to split the difference? Is $40 million over 7 years enough to get it done?

The deal that they have reportedly agreed to is 5 years, $30 mil each.
The 12 year deal is not even being considered, according to their agent.

I think your Canadians made a bad move. Scott Gomez looked like crap last year. He's a prime example of why I would never sign a guy to a long term contract.
I would like to reserve judgment until at least November but my first impression is that I don't like this trade either. For that amount of $, I would much rather see Vinny.:p But his no trade clause kicks in tomorrow and I guess Tampa has decided to keep him after all.

That's why we traded his ass today:D

To the Canadiens

We got back Chris Higgins who makes a fraction of what Gomez makes

Best Regards

This just in...

Dany Heatley has been traded to the Oilers for Andrew Cogliano, Dustin Penner and Ladislav Smid.

I thought he would be going to The Rangers after the Gomez trade.

Yes - think the actual deadline is also 12 noon EST. So far think the best move so far is Bouwmeester in Calgary. This gives them probably the most solid D in the league with Pheneuf and Regher.
Heatley will probably end up in Edmonton. If Sedin signing is true think it is good except think there are better players available such as Camallarri that could be gotten for less. The Montreal deal for Gomez looks like a dud!

The problem with the Boumeester signing is cap space. The Flames were tight against the cap without him so I wouldn't be surprised to see them unload another player or two for less than they are worth, much like Philly has to. If the Flames don't unload a big contact on defence, they may as well plan on being bottom third in goals scored,

They had to sit out Phaneuf the last three games last season to make it under the cap last season.

Has anybody noticed how pleasant it is just to hear peoples different opinions and "guesses" about trades and signings without having "meatballs" thrown at us every second post????

It's great !!!!!!!!!!!
