The games have started. Right now preliminary rowing is on TSN. All i can say is i'm getting very thirsty watching buffed athletes doing there thing.

Come on Canada!!!!!!!!!! Do us proud.

2000 Olympics Canada won 14 medals.

Can we surpass that for 2004? --- Kev

Governmental Help.

Yes we ignore our athletes for four years, and then expect them to rake in the medals that correspond with a "wealthy Western" nation of xx million people.
But Canada doesn't seem to have a national subsidized amateur sport training facility that Australia seems to have.
There's a lot of low sponshorship athletes that could benefit. Okay, these amateurs aren't supposed to accept pro-sponsorship, but motivated governments seem to be able to find a way to wrap patriotism around their athletes.
Good for some electioneering pandering.

But at least look on the bright side: no more of our precious tax dollars are spent on this. After reading about how the Canda Post C.E.O. was lining his pockets, it isn't hard to imagine how a sport executive could be lining his pockets, after the Salt Lake scandals, and endless I.O.C. vote buying.

yes, the Olympics - the pageantry of athletic skill and competitive spirit, pure sport, competition for the sake of competition - no overt displays of nationalism, no commercialism, no backroom politics, no influence peddling, drug free, no unbiased television commentary. The place where you realize the results have nothing to do with a countries willingness to spend money on it’s athletes and training facilities – the place where any 3rd world goat herder has as much chance as any other participant. Who could ask for anything more?

it’s never about the medal count!

Not since Ben Johnson!

timec, if you think that is a funny one, how about this one:

I'll tap my foot five times to mean fifth place for the Canadian figure skaters, four times for the Italians, and three times for the French. That has got to be one of the most blatant acts of cheating.

To think that Ben Johnson almost got away with it all. :D
There was some rule back then that said that as long as an athlete does "not" admit to steroid use, then his medals can not be stripped.
Johnson admitted it in hopes of being reinstated the next year. He said that he got bad advice from his lawyer.

9.69 seconds, now that was a jaw breaking time, even with one fist raised!

The Australian goverment spends the same amount of money on there athletes as the USA. And Australia is 15 times smaller. It has a population smaller than Canada. I wonder how many social programs are lacking because Australian athletes are pampered so well. The money has to come from some where.

I love to see Canada do well. But i don't want to pay for it. --- Kev

I'm really hating these new swim suits the female athletes are wearing.

They cover the female form in all its glory. Uggglllyyy. Bring back the sexy suits of the past. --- Kev

Swimming clean

Kev
ZERO Canadian swimming athletes qualified!
This seems to be the price of swimming clean.

If you swim clean, then
you don't get the green$$$.

I noticed Marion Jones has trouble just making the U.S. team, let alone winning a gold medal, ever since she's stayed off the drugs for a few months, to get it to filter out of her body system. She's probably hanging around long enough to fulfill the sponsorship agreements. She doesn't have a hope in hell of winning without the juice.

joe......

Just because you don't win doesn't mean your clean. But i get your point.

It would be really interesting to find out how many athletes are doped up. I heard from experts they all are.

deke....

Did you manage to see the Dutch rowing squad? (Womens 8s) Most of those ladies were hot. They kinda inspired me to go out and buy a paddle.:D --- Kev

Isaiah Thomas said that an athlete would give up five years of his life for two good games. Not necessarily explaining the dope, but explaining about the motivations of athletes. Isaiah never recovered from playing with an injured wrist during the playoffs.
Ken Camietti said he was on steroids when he won the MVP award.
Jose Canseco said that 85% of ball players were on steroids.

Lyle Alzado died of steroids (liver failure).

For some reason I can't think of hockey steroids use?

Steroid sports.

Why would a hockey goalie need steroids?

Hockey's not a good example because of all the anoroebic activity as opposed to very short term power muscle buildup that you need steroids for swinging a bat, or running 10 seconds of 100 metres, or running 10 seconds around a football field.

At the same time, I'm also wondering why more NFL quarterbacks are not caught? They need explosive throwing strength and explosive scrambling ability.

I always wondered why Patrick Roy declined the invite to the Olympics in 2000. I figured he didn't want to give up his weed to pass the drug testing that they have in the Olympics. Maybe Roy was on roids!
Womens 8, I will have to check them out. Maybe after they work up a little sweat.

China number 1!

It is amazing to see many of those Chinese women divers. Toes pointed, knees locked, legs straight, shoulders square, arms symetrical.
Some of them even look kind of cute. :D
One of my most sexy memories was the team Sweden diver from the 1992 Barcelona games. Long blonde hair, long legs, golden tan. The darling of the reporters. I can't even remember her name or if she won anything or not.
