So when the sun is blotted out for a few years 4-10 years. How are you going to survive?
Have a hot-house with infra red lamps for growing food. I think some grow ops will turn over to become veggy pathes.
A source of water. Since rainfall can't be depended on, a rod-plant (reverse osmosis plant) would be required. Small sail boats have these items. You can make fresh water from salt water.
A source of electricity, wind or nuclear or hydro. I think nuclear would be the way because the climate could change rapidly and so could rain fall (hydro depends on current rain fall). Wind is possible. Nuclear would be the most steady.
What will you do for heat? Today we can't heat all of our houses, due to lack of wood etc.
Protection?
Whom do you trust?

Like the first days of Covid last year, everyone rushing to buy toilet paper, food and supplies.

... Nuclear would be the most steady. ...
I hope you already have your contract for a supply of nuclear fuel locked in. And a personal army to enforce the contract.

After being one of the first to recognize the tp issue was coming, I said to my ex whats the one thing you can't live without. She said food. I said tp. (Probably different perspective as a that time I was in the midst of what would become a 4 week fasting period!)

Why bother
Who would want to be here on earth to live through that anyway.
I think about the book called " The Road."

The thing is if you ask people about planning for the future, they talk about retirement, where they will go in retirement, and the money they will need for retirement.

Nobody plans for a worst case scenario, if you do, most people will think you are one of those survivalist nutcases.

The reality is we build our houses out of wood, and depend on services to be delivered to our houses (electricity, water, sewer and whatever you use for heat). Most houses are not designed for earthquakes, with minimum design for apartment buildings.
Most buildings/houses are not designed for passive heating/cooling anymore. In fact I remember one mall I was in, if you stood in the sunlight, it was very warm.

In the last few years I noticed a trend for people to do zero-emission houses (which for all purposes are off the grid).

Although most people would not understand how to run a zero-emission house and do the maintenance required on it. Most people are clueless on how the TV they watch works or how their iphone and android phones work, let alone what toxic substance could be in their phones.

If this pandemic wasn't a wake up call for disaster planning, but hey, people will still chase money above everything else.
