Same here, even if I lived in NYC I couldnt pull for a team with that kind of payroll.

If you have ever rooted for the Jays, don't forget that the back to back World Series teams had the highest payrolls in baseball history at the time. Just sayin'.

ya....the yanks do look awesome this year but for some reason, I wouldnt rule out the Angels this year. They look really good.

Just MO.
I agree, the Angels' have a strong batting order one thru nine...

and I still believe Yankee pitching is suspect...

Sorry all you baseball weenies.......but the fact of the matter is baseball is a joke. The have and the have nots.....Love to be KC, Pitt, Seattle, Baltimore, San Diego.....the list goes on and on. Never a chance to even have a sniff. The top money teams are always there and we can always hope for that one small market team to have a lucky year. If they do, the big boys take their top players the following year.

Yup baseball is a real treat;) Love October.
Same thing in the NBA where the rich gets richer as in the case of the LA Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, Orlando Magics and Dallas Mavericks. Sometimes though its the player's desire to move to a winning team by accepting a paycut that makes this teams unbeatable in paper. And bad management moves like that of the Memphis Grizzlies giving away Pau Gasol to the Lakers for almost nothing.

Even if there's a big gap with regards to talent and wealth among baseball teams, I still love watching baseball. Plus, throwing money doesn't guarantee titles or even a playoff spot as in the case of the NY Mets, Detroit Tigers, and even the Blue Jays years back. Toronto thought Ricciardi would be another Theo Epstein type executive. Just imagine A-Rod's annual pay is equal to that of the whole Florida Marlins team.

The Phillies is my childhood team and would love for them to make history and repeat as Champions but the law of average of winning a sports title in that city is every 20 years. I just hope they break the trend and not win another one when the icebergs in Greenland are almost gone. However, the LA Dodgers really looks like they're really hungry for a title this year. They have one of the best managers in baseball in Joe Torre and the city needs something to smile about. LA Dodgers vs. NY Yankees in the World Series is a sure winner for the league and the networks. Two of the biggest sports markets south of the border playing against each other in America's favorite past time. They're also guaranteed millions in international viewership with their foreign players. Looks like the World Series will come close to the NFL Superbowl this year in viewership as the latter has competition from the Winter Olympics and the World Cup. I'd be happy to see either the Phillies or Dodgers win the World Series. :)

i found this to be an interesting read http://baseball.about.com/od/newsrumors/a/09teamsalaries.htm that only 4 out of the 9 teams to spend over a 100 million dollars in payroll actually made the post season. and out of the top 5 highest payrolls only the red sox and the yankees made it in. and also i noticed that the nationals who have a 60 million dollar payroll which would allow you to have an awesome team in the NHL came in last for again in baseball

Team 2009 payroll- Teams Still Alive

New York Yankees $201,449,189
Los Angeles Angels $113,709,00
Philadelphia Phillies $113,004,046
Los Angeles Dodgers $100,414,592

Teams Just eliminated

Boston Red Sox $121,745,999
St. Louis Cardinals $77,605,109
Colorado Rockies $75,201,000
Minnesota Twins $65,299,266

Boston lost to the Angels and there is only a about an $8 Million difference after that lets have a look.
Yankees beat Minnesota- $136 Million payroll difference approx
Phillies beat Rockies- $38 Million payroll difference approx.
Dodgers beat Cardinals- $26 Million payroll difference approx.

All 4 teams left are in the top 9 of all MLB Payrolls

Team 2009 payroll
New York Yankees $201,449,189
New York Mets $149,373,987
Chicago Cubs $134,809,000
Boston Red Sox $121,745,999
Detroit Tigers $115,085,145
Los Angeles Angels $113,709,00
Philadelphia Phillies $113,004,046
Houston Astros $102,996,414
Los Angeles Dodgers $100,414,592

So.......Timeless? Not so much. Even the Tour de France has a more even playing field than baseball.
but you can also look at it that out of the top 3 teams only the yankees made it into the playoffs. while the mets and cubs spent roughly 284 million combined and got nothing for it. don't get me wrong i think that baseball as the worst format of the 4 major leagues

such is life I guess...

remember Puttz, in the total scheme of things, were all just "snowflakes in a hot oven":)...

"Nuttin:) much, just keepin it real":)...

Anica, pretty impressive huh...

maybe it's time to partake of the services many of the lovely ladies on this board have to offer;)...

and don't forget your ID...

the gym doesn't seem to be doing it...

Puttz, this might make you feel special, almost as much as being on page one of PERB's lounge section...

if there was a Nobel Prize for contributions to the lounge section of an escort review board, you'd have my vote:)...

and that makes you a winner in my eyes:eek:...

All the noise this year has been about the new Yankees and how much money they cost.

Meanwhile, the Phils have quietly gone about making some real improvement, and yet all you hear about is the Yankees. Remember it is they who are the defending champs, not the new yorkers,

Cliff Lee, Pedro, and even Raul Ibanez, who until he suffered some injuries, was having a Bret Boone 2001 type season.

Now if only the Phils can find a cure for Chase Utley's Chuck Nablock Syndrome.

Ah good ole Bret Boone. The 2001 season was back before they started testing for Steroids. He fell off the map once he was unable to use the juice. IMHO he was one of the guys most hurt by not being able to jack up. Hey but he got his big contract and went quietly off into the sunset.....good ole Frosted Tips (he use to bleach the tips of his hair).

Finally someone on here who can talk a little baseball. If I did not know the title of the thread I could not guess the topic.

But, I was hardly suggesting Boone was juicing. Never crossed my mind, NOT.

For anybody who has read Money Ball, there is a chapter on one of the Yankees. Anybody?
