Not everyone has a credit card, especially some ladies with no on the record income or credit history. The thread is helpful.

Our mod makes an excellent point. There are some ladies on here without even a chequing account. That makes email transfers and other subtle forms of payment impossible. After my wife found money missing from our shared account, I had to become more careful by withdrawing smaller amounts over a longer period. Kinda like basic training, guys! Keep your ass/profile low when crawling under barbed wire, or you will get scratched. The 6P Principle applies here: Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

Why is a credit card being used as a deposit an issue? The charge won't show up, it's just a pre-auth, and then you settle your bill in cash or credit upon check out.

pre-auths do show up on online banking though. At least until the hold is released which can take 3-5 business days. You can always ask them to void the pre-auth.

I can verify this! I use PayPower Visa exclusively. Immediately before I checked into my lovely suite in River City, I loaded up my card. I walked it, they pre-authorized it, & then reversed the remaining balance back onto my card, at my request. I needed to reload my card while touring & there was not a Reload Pack available at any vendor in Kamloops! Fortunately a dear sweet friend was able to pick one up for me in Vancouver & now tomorrow, I'm going to use it for a great pedicure!

If you use booking.com you just need to use a credit card - it can be a pre paid one or one that doesn't have much credit on it. They just use it to reserve your room. Once you get to the hotel you can pay cash.
I found this to be very handy when I was in NYC and had left my credit card back in Dallas.

Not so easy! Booking with a credit card, even if it has nothing left on it, that works.... but once you get to the hotel, they'll need to take their deposit on the card that has an available balance (unless the hotel accepts cash deposit).

No paper trail. I once heard a rumour that a married man hired an escort.
The last hotel i was at they slipped my receipt under the door in the middle of the night. I used my cc to hold the room but someone put it through.

A $500 or $1000 deposit will be charged against the card and reduces available credit by the same amount until removed.
It could definitely be an issue for some people.

I don't judge people's character by their financial status.
It's not financial status... It's adulting silly. I don't care if your checking account is empty, but every adult should have a bank account. It's part of being a grown up functioning member of society. Whether or not they tell you about it, or whether or not they want to use it in this hobby is a different story..l

sometimes foreign students won't have local bank account, just working off of atm card or credit card

in the US, most of the migrant farm workers do not have bank accounts, just work for cash and send the money home

those who don't want a paper trail, cash deposit is an option

in a world of data mining, being careful or discrete with cash transactions is a wise choice
