Is the country of origin relevant to YOU when making a purchasing decision?? Do you give more value to the brand if it is " Made In..... " ??

For example, CHANEL has a perfume factory in China. The product is the same quality from the bottle to the packaging as the one made in France. If you were to buy a fragrance, would you buy Chanel that is " Made in China " OR " Made in France "??

If you were gonna smoke a cigar would you prefer " Made in Cuba " over that of Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, or the Dominican Republic??

If I have a choice, where one product provides jobs for Canadians - I'll choose the product that provides jobs for Canadians.
One of the reasons I wear Canada Goose sometimes this winter. Hopefully, the successful Canadian brand doesn't get bought out by Americans as they always do.

I wouldn't pay a premium price for a Hugo Boss Orange Label knowing it was made in China. It might be a premium brand, but it is in mass production and still commands a premium price. They know they make more sending the lower end stuff to China for production, but I would also be inclined to pay less for that reason.

Personally, the importance of "Made In" all depends on what the product is.
For expensive designer clothing, I prefer the garment to be made in Italy.
I also believe European automobiles should be made in Europe and not Mexico. For example, a half educated automobile enthusiast could see, hear and feel the difference between a Volkswagon made in Europe verses one made in Mexico.

As for cigars, well, not all great cigars come from Cuba. There are a handful of Dominican and Honduran cigars that are a superior "smoking experience" than some of the fine Cuban cigars. But then again, it's all subjective isn't it? There is one mild Paris cigar brand, Plelades Paris, that I no longer stock in my humidor room. It's essentially Dominican and Nicaraguan long-leaf tobacco, shipped to Paris, crafted and boxed in Paris and then shipped back to North America for resale. Obviously, this is simply a designer marketing scheme.

Peace.

A few years ago, I would of said no, but now I try to purchase Canadian, locally if possible. I may pay a bit more sometimes, but it is worth keeping our local and national economies going.

Your chance will be low man, due to NAFTA and the dependency of other countries in the world. Good luck!

The problem: most things are made in China now... including popular items such as the iPhone... sure its designed in California but it's entirely produced in massive factory city in China. And as we all know, these phones fetch premium prices just fine:)

I prefer to buy things made in Canada ...to support our economy. I also try to buy local produce whenever I can.
The problem is that the labor cost is too high that it is impossible for any businesses here in Canada to have a massive production without having an economic loss. :(

As has been said with some products the quality differs depending on where made. Guitars for one to add to things already listed. Not sure if that is still applicable stopped playing long ago.

Added to this many products assembled outside of China are still made up of components made in China.

Yes..............but, the retailers don't give a shit about that, so if I need something I pretty well have to suck it up in regards to where it was made.

You're 100% right, retailers would only care if the consumer cares, most people will take the cheapest item without a second thought as to where it was made. Price is king for most shoppers.

right behind you!
I import products from various counties, and can tell you China is no longer the cheapest country, we actually have problems getting products from China, their economy is growing, people there are asking for more money.

Also note, because a product says made in Canada, it does not actually mean it was 100% made in Canada. Maybe an easy example is car. you need many parts for a car, some of them are imported even if the car is assembled in Oshawa or Brampton Ontario, and sold as made in Canada, there is a percentage of it's components that are made in another country. The companies have to watch this in order to ship the car to another NAFTA country if they want 0% duty.

I saw this on CBC's Marketplace a few years ago about imported fish... take a look

depends on what it is Im buying. common items, I dont really care. my dishes could be made in sweden or china or usa it wouldnt make a difference. I do care for some items, cars, or higher end products (designer brands) where they are made. perfect example was the VW golf. they reintroduced the golf as the "city golf" while production of the rabbit was taking place. this essentially was a car made in mexico, and there is a difference. If I ever found out my louis vuitton wallets were made in china i would stop buying them. same goes with a ferrari, you make it in denmark, i will send it right back. or at least if you are going to accept an item being made from a particular place, it should be priced accordingly. all depends on what it is, iphone should be made in china, they would be the best place for electronics.
