For what it's worth even Telus prepaid can be gotten for as little as $10 a month if you are willing to limit to about 30 minutes of voice and 250 texts a month. (Add $10 to the balance then pay $5 for 250 text pack which gets you $0.15/minute on the voice, drawn from your remaining $5.)

they're all wrong

if you REALLY want untraceable, you use 7-11's SpeakOut plan

1) you buy the phone cash - nobody asks your name
2) you register on a land line - it doesn't have to be your own - nobody asks your name
3) you top the account up using cash - nobody asks your name

no bills, no names, not even the IMEI number can be traced to you... what's not to like about it?

yes, talk minutes are expensive, but how much talking do you do before you visit an escort?

this is your true throw away phone. they have voicemail, contact list, and they can be locked

VCC is correct, speakout is the way to go, especially if it's going to be your secondary pooners phone.

separate phones are a drag.. use something like line2.com. You can disable notifications so that you don't get them at times you don't need them, it gives you a local number, voice mail, text and all the goods within your existing phone. It's anonymous enough for this.

Yes, I know what you mean by second phone being a drag. But I intend not to carry it home. Even if I do, it will be quietly stowed away. At my work, privacy is not an issue, it is the home front that I am worried about. So far seems like I have to choose between Speakout and Chatr. Decisions decisions!! Thank you for so many responses mates. I have another reason to be a proud Perb-ert.

I used TextPlus, same type of deal and it keeps things pretty private for me. It helps to have a gazillion apps on your phone so someone would have to really dig around to find your VoIP app, and of course keeping your history clear is a given. I have notifications turned off except when I'm making arrangements or heading to see someone.

Just make sure you always have the phone on password protected......police can't legally access your phone if it's locked down

Chatr (Rogers) is good and so is Virgin (Bell) but both companies keep your text messages for more than 90 days on file while Wind and Mobiliciity dump that information within 15 days

It's always good to be cautious
I am not worried bout LE as much as being caught by ..... family. But thanks for the info, mate.

Line2 is voip + text in a neatly packed app. It's cheap and it works awesome. (not affiliated. Just a happy user)

edit: I misread that.. it sounds like textplus is the same ;)

It is, and the texting/local telephone number part is free. You can buy talk minutes pretty cheaply in-app, it just shows up as a generic iTunes charge to your credit card.

Well, mission accomplished my fellow Poonerbs.

I got myself the 7-11 deal. I think it is called Speak Out.

The phone is $79. They had a promotion that if I buy $100 worth of minutes, I get extra $25 of credit. So total damage was about $201-55. I am set for 365 days.

The phone is pretty .. basic to say the least. I don't know how lucky it will be for me because as soon as it was active, I called Kara and then Jordyn and both didn't answer :(.

May be I should have called one of my favorite ones. Anyways, thank you everyone. I learned a lot and I hope this threat helps other PERB-erites too.

use the built-in calendar to remind you one week before your year is up. that way, if you have any time left, you can top up your plan and the remaining minutes roll over into the next year. if you let it run out at the end of the year you lose that roll-over advantage

I never thought of that. Great idea VCCB. Obviously you are speaking from experience. Thanks mate.
