Beautiful, safe, Surrey B.C.
I was so disappointed with the early stoppage I thought others would have posted their comments on here. I wanted to see if any other fight fans thought there were blows to the back of Fedor's head that weren't even commented on. Nobody saw the fight ? Or saw the fight the way I did ?? Comments, anyone.

From watching the highlights(lowlights:D) on
the sports channel. I thought that the sports
commentator said, it was a blow to the kidneys
that brought the one fellow down. I seriously thought
the commentator was using the word kidneys as a
euphemism for the guy taking one right in the nuts:confused:
You will have to wait for HunkaHunka to return from exile for
a more lucid and intelligent critique of the fight.

It looked like there might have been the odd shot to the back of the head but then Fedor turned over and the fight was stopped after that. So it's hard to say, but if the fight had gone the distance and continued as it was going, Dan Henderson probably would've won anyways.

I saw it last night, if you see the replay Fedor got hit with a ansty uppercut as he was trying to get up and you can see he goes totaly limp and collapses to the floor. Herb did initially step in to stop the fight and saw Fedor trying to get better position. Herb is imho one of the, if not the best referee in MMA at this time and I have a feeling that once Fedor rolled onto his back, Herb was able to see Fedors eyes better and determin if he was able to continue or not, if you replay the fight you see after the fight was stopped that Fedor was sluggish in his movements and he still did not have full control over his movements.

I would rather see an early stoppeage over a fighter taking too many unnecessary shots, but in this case I feel it was just a matter of a few more seconds before Henderson started smashing him.

You see a better view of the knockout in this replay at 8:26 seconds where Fedor just goe limp like a ragdoll. Sad to see an amazing fighter lose that way, but the world has seen Fedor's weakness over the years and no one really tried to exploit it until his last two fights.

The shots to the back of the head unfortunatly were incidentaly and Dan did stop after the second blow to adjust, good awareness on his part.

All in all Herbs job is the safety of the fighters first and foremost, his call was justified imo.

Yes that replay does show what happened a lot better. Thank you Umbras. I guess I need to get a PVR as I was just relying on the replays they showed during the event and I couldn't really see it all too well. If anyone could have gone on and came back it would have been Fedor though. You are quite right though, he was looking sluggish after he rolled over. Damn, as much as I love Hendo, I really wanted Fedor to come back. I guess the sport is just evolving too fast for him to keep up.

Fedor was an amazing fighter, but he has really not done alot to adjust his style, the evolution of the sport has moved past the fighters that choose not to evolve and rely on a limited skillset, now days you have to be well rounded.

Also some people hit a point in thier life where thier reaction time and awareness just up and fail them, Roy Jones Junior is a perfect example, he was one of the best fighters int he world, then one day he lost and he was never the same after, with every fight showing a slower reaction time to his opponents.

I appreciate his skills and he is a beast but his last 4 fights looked like he was a man only there to get his paychecks, I used to see an intensity in him when he fought in Pride, but as of late it has been subdued.

The guy has a lot of money and nothing further to prove, he still has a few good fights in him, but I honetly think it is time for him to take care of himslef and enjoy the rest of his life, he has been taking way to many heavy shots to the head of late.

Umbras you raise a lot of good points. It's disappointing when a fighter loses their love of the sport, and you really can tell. Randy Couture comes to mind as the opposite; the guy just won't quit! And every single fight he gives it his all, which everyone can see is not what it used to be, but he still has love for the sport.

Yeah, age and resilience plays a big part(glad Chuck finally retired), I missed the last part of jones' career, was disenchanted with the bullshit going on and the mayor of Trollville Don King, although I will watch Manny fight anytime.

I am excited to see how things will play out in the next few years in MMA, so many amazing prospects out there and we are seeing many more natural athletes like GSP and John Jones coming into the sport.

I love seeing technical fights where you see good fight plans from both fighters and appreciate th ground game aspect that can be amazing when you see guys pull off an amazing submission out of nowhere.

Anyone looking forewards to GSP/Diaz? and would anyone be intrested in a get together to watch it?

The excuse of not evolving with the sport is BS imo because both fighters brought nearly the same skillset into the cage and fought with the same style so this fight wasn't one where a fighter wasn't aware of the others technique. All the fight showed was one guy is more washed up than the other. Fedor should just retire...due to age and accumulated shots taken his timing is off and he'll never get it back.

I have thought Fedor has always been overrated.
He had a great record fighting mostly nobodies, or various top 20 heavyweights.

The only real contender he beat was big nog in 2004. By decision.
Crocop in 2005 by decision. Other than that, nobodies, and guys out of their prime......Tim Silva...Arloski..

I dont think he should have been a HW, he is 225 and fat. Losing his gut would make him a lhw, cutting and sitting in the sauna, he could be a mw.

Fedor is finished. He's lost to a middleweight/light heavyweight. He should retire OR drop down a weight class, cause Fedor is no heavyweight.

On a side note, why the hell was Overeem cut? It makes no sense to release your heavyweight champion.

Henderson is as tough as nails. If Herb Dean hadn't of stopped the fight then Fedor would've gotten beat up even worse! Did you not see Fedor after the fight in interviews..he looked beat up as hell!

I wanted Fedor to win...so he could restore some of his mystique...apparently those days are over.

Hendo is one of my favourite fighters...so I was still happy for him...

I did not say he was the best, I said he was a great fighter, there is a difference. Fedor fought against good fighters in Pride, they just had different rules in comparison to the north american regulations that made problems for the majority of the fighters that migrated to the octagon style of fighting.

This fight is an example of why Fedor was a great fighter. The commentary is in Japanese but one of the better videos of this fight.

Not that it matters anyways, the new generation of fighters like Jon Jones people will have no choice but to have a well rounded skillset in order to compete. The sport is evolving every year and fighters who choose not to expand thier knowledge are on the wa out.

Overeem got cut as he pulled out of his fight with Bigfoot and he only had one fight with strikeforce left. It was just a way to open the door to the UFC with out violating the Strikeforce/Showtime contract. Rumors are also going around that it was because he did not want to Silva and was ducking him.

I am more of the opinion of him going to the UFC, as currently the heavyweight division is running out of legitemate contenders. I don't see any big fights for the division after Cain/Junior fight.
