Draft Day - Canucks

I was a bit disappointed Lack only fetched really just a third rounder. I know a 7th rounder was included for next years draft but thought he could fetch at least a second rounder. We should be accumulating picks not giving them away. Dorsett for a third and Sven Baerchi for a second. Dorsett is a serviceable player. I'm not sure if Sven will pan out.

I thought Benning coulda traded up in the draft as well but that didn't happen either. Everyone got better in the West except the Nucks. Kings get Lucic. Flames get Hamilton and Edmonton finally gets a goalie plus Griffin Reinhart. could be a long season next year

Canucks after today are now a weaker team prior to going into the draft. Everyone on most forums are pretty much in line with agreement for what we got in return for Lack was much less than stellar. Listening to the team earlier today, many many callers stressed their opinions and with validity. What no one brought up was.......how will Jacob, being so unproven as a NHL goalie, stand up to the podium if Miller gets injured for a lengthy duration ? This is what really concerns me. I feel happy for Jacob but on the other hand feel sorry for him.

The other nail death to The Canucks was how strong their external conference / divisional team rivals all the sudden got .

The way I see it......Canucks fans better be looking 3 -4 years out now. I wont be surprised to see many empty seats this coming season again. Set your bars real low going into this season. I feel for the fools who pay nose bleed prices to see this comical team lol.

Oh.....The twins will once again be a burden for this team. They need to go......desperately

I heard a rumour that the nucks are mired in the the worst standing of all, just on the edge of a playoff spot but on the out side looking in

I welcome 2021

I'm out

Lots to comment on re: the draft, but will make just one observation right now: Griffin Reinhart may eventually become a good D-man, as it generally took take longer for D-men to develop, but he did not impress at all in a couple of brief stints with the Islanders. Not really any one thing he does particularly well, thought he was extremely soft in a game the Isles played against my Rangers. NY Isles have had some comical regimes (notably the Milbury years), but Garth Snow is nobody's fool. He has done a nice job turning this team into a contender as they move to new digs in Brooklyn. I think he was just cutting his losses with a guy in Reinhart who was a 4th overall pick in the 2013 draft. If he thought this guy was going to develop into a linchpin on the Isles blueline for many years, he would have kept him. Just another young, high draft pick who will struggle mightily in Edmonton.

I did dbl=take on this..Badger,you are a well -informemed and knowledgable man...was this tongue-in-cheek?

Badger, what you say makes no sense. Sedins have a full no trade clause so does Edler. Who has the cap space for both Sedins are what do you expect to get back? You trade Edler if he agrees to waive his no trade, you might get a first rounder but there's nobody in the farm to replace him, thanks to Gillis. You pretty much have to wait it out unfortunately.

I don't know if "burden" is the best word to describe the Sedins. They led the team in scoring with 76&73 pts.Other than Vrbata, with 63, the other forwards were in the 30's.
Having said that, it is true they will soon turn 35 and decline is inevitable.

the old saying, "better to trade someone a year too soon than a year too late" may be accurate here.

however, trading them could be very difficult, who will be able/willing to spend approx. 12Mil of cap on 35 yr olds?

No honestly I truly believe that it is time to get out of the 17 million in contracts with both Sedins and Edler.

Diminishing assets. At least now they could get something. Edler played better than his -23 year with torts. Dump him now while you can for a decent return. Both Sedin could fetch you a decent return still. We aren't close to the cup. We could get some good fast serviceable players from back east.

Send them to Detroit/ Toronto/. Where ever their no trade limited trades will allow them to be sent.

We have to get younger and better than what we've been.

Send them all too Ottawa for Bobby Ryan and a couple of their younger stars..lol

Badger, are you sure that Markstrom is UFA? I had thought he was RFA.

If he is UFA it makes sense there was no deal for him,as why spend asset(s) on a guy you might lose on July 1?Better to wait&make an offer.

agreed, the Sedins are diminishing assets but still led the forwards, except Vrbata, by a ton(see my post to luv...pussy)

I just can't see a team taking on their salaries,I mean who has 12Mil in cap space. And, GM's would also consider them to be diminishing assets.
Moving Edler seems much more doable, but he had a gd bounce-back season and I think he's needed here.

"Nucks fans better hope Miller has recovered from the knee injury.

Anaheim has some big players that an counter Lucic at least. Vancouver……. Not so much, Ducks first round pick last year, Nik Ritchie is a big tough kid that has skill.

What I meant by " burden " was sort of in line to what you wrote. Cap along with age. Come playoff time, the sisters have been completely unproductive for quite a few years now, so, in my view, 1 year before resigning them would have been the ripe time to deal them. You could have gotten more then and quite a bit of cap room would have been increased substantially. But.....one never knows.

I personally believe, when it's all said and done, the twins will retire here.

Sigh.

Really? Just when you think we've evolved, still see asinine comments like this. Really thought we were beyond this. Beyond homophobic it's also so childish and totally unfair.

The Sedins sadly will never get their due respect in this town due to this level of mouth breathing discourse

Sigh sigh sigh .

Wrong and they are respected. That is your opinion. I'm talking only of their Playoff round achievements as of late . Relax and go have a glass of beer. The worlds not ending lol.

Ok Guys, you obviously are misunderstanding my sense of humor. Rightfully so, it's the internet. My circle of friends, we talk like that in humor and they we get each other's " fun comments" So....have your Jabs in.

And Bag.....I don't need your education about internet searching. I am in hockey pools and I am well aware of there history, and do watch them play regularly. Thanks and have a good day and enjoy the weather.

Glad you and your friends still think it's funny for whatever reason.
Thanks, and I'm now happy that you are glad :). Things like this we don't take seriously as a group and usually......go with the flow. Like smooth beer on a hot day ;)

With all the of their ( the twins ) epic history playing in the big leagues, it'll suck if Lord Stanley isn't on their resume when its all said and done. Many don't of course and.....It's not over yet
