Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
Just goes to show that A) you can find "hidden" meaning in anything, especially from the past when certain terms had different meaning and B) how society's views on things change.
In my family we used to laugh at my grandpa's stories of how he pursued my grandmother over a long time until she agreed to go on a date with him and tell him nowadays he'd likely get maced, kicked in the nuts or arrested for stalking.
BTW they were happily married for over 60 years.

Well, not to say that Montalban's character isn't an arrogant creep, but, that's what women were spoon fed back then..the 'right' guy would be some smart alec, arrogant, lippy guy, and if you said 'yes' a little too soon, watch out! Defamation of your character could follow you around like a forever hang over, and he would never respect you or marry you. You were expected to be a little frosty, and arm's length to show some kind of ability to deny baser instincts...

These days women don't have to depend on marriage, they are out getting jobs and being independent. If they choose to fuck a guy they can say 'yes', so, today 'no' really means 'no'.

Yacking with a couple of gals in the 'old whores club' we were talking about how much more fun sex was when we were escorting, and how, for some reason, when we got into a relationship we got all inhibited..we are still haunted with that catacism, early ingrained...good girls don't...he won't respect you...he will think you're a slut and out screwing everyone...etc..

Lucky gals these days...good healthy attitudes.

Some of the best music, pop culture and literature is 'creepy' for those who can't deal with basic male/female dynamics. Women may have been fed some shit back in the day but so have men. Why is it that some so-called 'feminists' always play the victim card with shit they don't agree with? Feminism is about empowerment and equality. Get over it and enjoy the classics as they were intended and in the context of their time.

If you watch the classic version, don't play it from the very beginning. Start watching the clip at 2:28 it's sung from the opposite perspective with the woman being the aggressor and the guy being the one who just wants to get home. This song becomes seriously different depending on who has what sections to sing. For a real laugh watch this more modern adaption.

^That is one of the best modern versions! He is such a sweety, eh? Yeah, rape is about anger, and meanness. I don't see this song in that context. It was actually written by a fellow who performed it with his wife and she was some pissed when it was included in the movie at the last minute..it was her 'baby'.

Somehow, we have forgotten that courtship entails a little bit of 'push and pull'...some animals are a lot more aggressive than we are..

Well, in hindsight, I wish I had said 'yes' more often, and society be damned!

rape song? gotta be fucking kidding me!

c'mon people, you mean to say we haven't tried hard to convince the other to stay the night when we're horny?
imo, it's nothing more than innocent flirting at the courting stage. every guy at one time has gone through this, but I doubt it ends up in rape.
rape is such a strong word and it takes one sour pussy to view this song as such.

Merry Christmas to all in PERB land.
