Last night i was playing online poker and decided before i went to bed i would make some herbal tea. Because you don't have much time when playing online poker to leave the computer, i ran to the stove, i already new there was enough water in the kettle so i turned the knob on, and ran back to my computer. The kettle i use has a whistle that howls when the water is boiling, and again when playing online games you don't have the luxery of leaving your computer when you feel like it so i decided to remove the whistle. Now usually when i do this i'll put me stove timer on, but alas i forgot. Sometime later i notice a faint burning plastic smell, ignoring it i go back to the game. It wasn't to long after, when the smoke detector goes off. I jump up thinking what the fuck. As soon as i hit the doorway to my bedroom i remembered 'the kettle'. As i ran into the kitchen there was some smoke, but all didn't seem to bad.....until i picked the kettle up. There was so much heat that when i removed the kettle from the stove, the metal part that holds the water separated from the plastic handle and the metal part came crashing to the floor. OH SHIT!! I immediately grabbed the oven mitts to retrieve the hot kettle, and in doing so i step on molten bits of solder that was used to attach the kettle bottom to the kettle top. This hot molten solder was splattered across the floor. I jumped back off the kitchen floor swearing to Jesus himself, onto a carpeted area. My feet are burned and as i'm dancing around in pain i see the kettle has now set the linoleum floor on fire. The flames are just starting to appear around the side of the kettle. I freak out again this time being more carefull i grab the stove mitts and toss the kettle it into the sink, and turn the cold water on. There is still molten solder smoldering everywhere and the area where the kettle was sitting is still smoking. I grab a cup of cold water and pour it over the smoldering floor. Where the kettle landed is nothing more than a large ugly black spot. There is about 10 or 12 other areas ranging from quarter of an inch to an inch that have nasty burned marks. As i survey the damage i know what i'll be doing tomorrow.
The next day i came up with a quick fix. The solution was to remove the damaged linoleum tiles and replace them with ones from behind the fridge and stove. So thats what i did. I didn't have enough tiles to replace them all so with some of the tiles that didn't suffer to much damage i took some sandpaper and sanded out the black marks. I then took White Out and dapped over the spotted area. Presto good as new. True Story.
So how was your day?
