Call ahead and book a hotel that is guest friendly. By guest friendly I mean bringing a bar girl to your room. I stayed at home in Bangkok that charged extra every time for bringing a girl to your room.

A little googling will provide all the information you could possibly want. There are entire forums and blogs dedicated to pooners travelling to Thailand, giving travel tips, recommending hotels, bars, massage parlours, etc. etc. etc. all over the country. Prices in minute detail, things to avoid.

Here's one to start:

http://bangkok2night.com

and....$30/night will get you a pretty nice hut on island beaches, but will get you a crappy room or a backpackers' hostel in Bangkok or Pattaya. You can get a pretty good idea on prices on general travel forums like Lonely Planet.

By the way, Pattaya is a shithole .... except for the bars/massage parlours.

So I guess the majority of Thailand is a shithole then...since the two most popular places are Pattaya and Bangkok!??

MacDonald's is the most popular restaurant in North America. It is still a shithole, so I am unable to comprehend your comment.

Pattaya is ONLY popular for the sex. Otherwise, it is a shithole. Crappy beaches, jaded people. There are many places throughout the country that are not shitholes. Popularity does not equal quality in pretty much anything worthwhile (except maybe the Beatles). :)

it depends on your budget and your expectations. There are a number of expensive and fancy hotels about, but you'd be very conspicuous in them. I tend to prefer my hotels to be simple and clean, conveniently located, and reasonably priced.

bearing that in mind I like staying at the Dynasty Inn in Bangkok, which is right next to Nana Plaza. It is extremely well located viv-a-vis the nightlife (literally steps away) , close to the MRT station (which will get you to Soi Cowboy, or anywhere else you want to go, quickly and easily) walkable to a number of other areas, and has lots of good food and drink options. It's also very reasonably priced. Ask for a room in the back building and it's pretty quiet, and you have the option to check in your guests or not as you wish. (to avoid the check in you just walk down the access alley alongside the front building.

It's not fancy, but it's comfortable, has a decent breakfast downstairs in the restaurant, and the location can't be beat.

im surprised you would say that, i thought pattaya had a pretty nice beach, good food, nice women. there is a certain asian type of chaos around town but thats what makes the place more fun to be.

Bangkok is just another polluted Asian city-but there are some very fun spots. Pattaya...I'd stay in Bangkok-if you want a beach, there are way better places to go.
In BKK, Dynasty is right in the middle of the action, but not the cleanest or quietest place I've stayed. Beds are like concrete if I remember correctly.Last time I was there, I stayed at the Westin-got a deal on Priceline for $55.
Make sure you visit Lolita's on soi 8. Tons of fun.
