I seem to be having problems with my computer,,,I apologize to the ones that I haven't returned emails to yet. I have this thing in my control panel,,,shopping wizard,,has anyone heard of it???? I had tried to uninstall it and won't let me,,my home page is now " About Blank" and tons of pop ups. Can some one tell me if this is a virus or spyware and possibly how to go about fixing it,,,Thanks much,,,Holly

It's not good, that's for sure ladyluck. I had the same thing happen to me last spring. It took over my homepage and no matter what I tried to make be my home page, it always defaulted to "About Blank". It CAN be uninstalled, but not easily. You need someone who knows what they're doing to rid your computer of it. I'm a computer illiterate, so I can't be of much help beyond saying you need to get help. Good luck!

Just a question, have you tried going into Add/Remove programs and trying that? I haven't seen this shopping wizard, but it might be worth a try.

If it's a virus look for "antivir" on the web and download it. It seems to work well. For Spyware use that Search and Destroy software because it does the job!

This issue does not appear to be a virus. When you download and install free software like Kazaa, it also installs a ton of other "helpful" software along with it, which are impossible to remove unless you uninstall the offending original program (like Kazaa). I am abit of a computer geek so any lovely SPs out there that need computer help can PM me.

bomb it out

Both myself, and my best friend had this exact problem, and we tried everything, and we're pretty computer "knowledgeable" (um spelling?). We ended up having to format our hard drives, and completely install everything again. Hope you find a cure! If not take it to computer boulevard or someplace for service, you'll have to pay to have it professionally fixed. Good luck

I had the same problem (shopping wizard) just last week.
I received it after I upgraded to Windows XP but before I could get my antivirus/spyware programs scheduled, BAM, I got hit. (Damn porno pics)
I threw everything I had at it but still could not get it removed completely.
I used, Spybot, The Cleaner, Adaware, Spycrawler, and the new program from Microsoft called Antivirus Beta1, (very good program, I thought) plus 3 other programs the names I can't remember.
I finally had to send my computer to Opus Computers and they did a complete swipe and reinstall of my Microsoft ME.

O.K.,

So now that you all have me completely freaked out by this new shopping wizard, how do I make sure I don't get invaded by it?

CWShredder would not get rid of the trojans/spyware that I had on my harddick.
There isn't just one program that can fix all. But after trying 8 different programs last week I found the new Beta1 from Microsoft to be really nifty.

Wow had the same dam thing happen last week. Could not get rid of it no matter what.
Always kjeep a back up of your files - back up everyday if you have too.
I wound up reformatting my hard drive and reolading windows, then all my other programs, windows patches (oh my god there are tons)
Then dropping all my files back in.
I am not a fan of free downloads but went out and bought a new firewall / virus scan/personal file protection program and all seems fine this week so far and have visited all my usual sites.
