Maybe the people from Quebec have it right. No Religious icons at work. Why or Why not?
Look I believe people can have their own lifestyle, religion or whatever; but sometimes I think they wear things to separate themselves from other people. This puts the spotlight on them. For the religious items can be an outward sign of their faith. Do people need to see this stuff at work?
Look at all the controversy in the past 40 years since the Canadian Charter of Rights. The biggest thing it has done is offset dress-codes in the workplace; now exceptions have to be made for everyone. it seems there are no standards anymore, people of religious background just do what they want and claim the priviledge of their Rights.... How is that fair to every one else in the workplace....
And please don't tell me these people, who use their religious and personnal crap, don't use it at all to get out of things at work. This is what makes the other people at work the most irritated by these people claiming their priviledges.
For now the pendulum is swung one way. In Quebec it has swung another.
Personally I think that old man was being a dick head, but he whispered loud enough for a camera to record it? set up? probally not.
The military haircut set the members of the military apart from the rest of Canadian society who in the 80's had generally long hair and bangs....The short hair was for cleanliness on campaign, to protect the men from lice etc.
