Actually at this rate it would be the 7th seed as with the way the Blues are playing they will take the #1 seed in the conference. The seven seed could be half a dozen teams at this point. If they meet Dallas or Calgary, I think the Canucks will be bounced early. I think the team out of the west this year is Nashville, as they haven't seemed to have had a prolonged slump this year. With crack D, great goaltending and 4 lines, its where the smart money lies. And here's to hoping Montreal tanks so they can get a top 5 pick.
Yeah Nashville could be the sleeper pick in the playoffs, they have been on fire since the trades. Not quite the Sedin brothers but the Kostitsyn brothers are doing quite well since brother Andre was acquired. Plus I hear that Radulov is coming back to Nashville soon and doesn't have to clear waivers. I wouldn't want to face them in the 1st round.

Problem with Nashville will be their opponents. The 5 seeds sucks!
The will most likely play Detroit first round, with Detroit having home advantage.....and they rock at home.

Then the most likely round 2 for them would be St Louis, with them having home advantage, and they rock at home too.
Third round would most likely be the nucks.....

Round 2 and 3 might be swapped if Chicago takes out Dallas. Or the Canucks can retake first.

Detroit.....St louis....Vancouver or Detroit.....Vancouver....St. louis....

Nashville is a good team, but has the absolute worse path to the finals.

You're right but may be this is the year Detroit finally show their age plus they have quite a few injuries right now...

The Western conference looks awfully tough to get out of which could only mean a team from the Eastern conference will take the cup!:eyebrows:;)

Canuck fans are blind to their team's faults.

The whole year they have relied on the PP and PK to win. They almost never dominate a game and the defense has been sloppy all year- how many games where the goalies bailed them out? They had an unnatural number of lucky bounces and favorable calls this year and now their luck is running out and the best players are feeling the pressure. Don't be surprised if Kesler was injured in the hab game and sits out a week. They haven't had a serious injury to a key player yet this year. Schneider - no one knows how he'd play in long stretch with playoff pressure and intensity. Second round tops.

Looks like the bandwagoneers and the naysayers are already out in full force and the playoffs haven't even started. Got to love being in Canada in Mar/Apr/May.

I have not seen a good dominating win since the Leafs were in town. Granted the Leafs don't have very good goal tending.

Their road trip was up and down with them being up for the Wings of course and letting it slide with other teams. Nashville, Dallas and Phoenix all look like they are teams to beat or at least really cranked it up vs the Canucks. They have been shittin the bed pretty regularly especially against the Habs.

they look like a team that's temporarily lost its heart - no skating, piss-poor passing, none of the old cycling the puck in the offensive zone which is their trademark

either they're taking it easy to avoid injuries for the post season, or they're pissed with management about something and they've gone on strike - either way, its a dangerous tactic. most times you just can't turn it back up overnight once you've lost your momentum

too bad for hobson, he had a slim chance for rookie of the year with the canucks - he's falling back fast now

Why are you guys so worried? They know what a mental grind the playoffs are and can you blame them for being mentally burned out since they played into Mid June with the pressure of a Canadian city on them. If you go full steam all the time youre not a person youre either a machine or a Navy Seal. All the vets on this team know everyone needs a mental " timeout" till the playoffs are days away and with the talent on this team they know they can turn it on.

Fair enough. They played a decent game and came up short.

No real breakdowns to speak of from where I was sitting. Still its a loss against a team they should be "up" for IMHO.

The yotes are much hungrier. five way log jam for the last 2 spots.
St louis is almost out of reach now.

That being the case, with noone from the Pacific really that close. Maybe they should really start to slow down. Alternate goalies every game.
More 4th line icetime. Especially after the next 3-4 games, when it will be clear if any position other than second is possible.
With 12 games left, I guess they need 10-2 to pass St Louis. Probably 4-8 to keep second.

Not agreeing or disagreeing. Just pointing out that this is exactly the attitude of the LA Lakers in the NBA and they proceeded to get swept the first series they encountered real resistance. Believe the Celtics claimed the same philosophy and got man handled. Mind you the two teams that beat them met in the finals. Obviously the NBA isn't hockey but principles of peeking, resting key players, being "hungry" are universal across sports with the difference of reg season to playoffs in the NBA is closest to the NHL - whistles get swallowed, the game slows down and gets gritty, and yes a grind is a very true description.

Canucks won with Schneider!!!
They beat the worst team in the entire league at home. They didn't actually play that well last night.
I think the Chicago game should wake the team up, if that doesn't......

Has anyone considered the Canucks of the last two weeks is the real team and the one that got to first place just got there through OT wins, lucky bounces, favourable calls, reliance on successful PP and PK?

Go through the season and check how many games they dominated five on five from beginning to end and won comfortably - maybe five - in the entire season. Most games were scraped out one goal difference, sometimes two goal wins. They regularly give up a lot of odd man rushes and get bailed out with a big save.

The team as a whole plays very sloppy. The Scheider fans are also delusional. He might be the next great goalie in the league, but he's pretty untested in long stretches.
