I was driving home from work along kingsway and I never do the streetwalker thing but I saw a hot blonde and decided to chat her up for some stupid reason! Anyways to make a long story short I was ambushed by two cop cars and arrested on the spot for communication for the purpose of prostitution. I doubt anyone else is as stupid as me but I was just wondering if anyone has advice on lawyers and so on. I have no criminal record at all and for some reason I didn't listen to my head saying that this is wrong. I know you can apply for an adult differral but do you need to spend all that money on a lawyer or could I represent myself? Any advice in this bad situation would be greatly appreciated!

First offence, represent yourself. Plead not guilty when you make your first appearance in court. At that point the crown has to give you all the particulars. The cops notes/statements, what they saw, heard etc. At this point you will also find out if the hot blond was an undercover LE or was a SW. If LE then anything she is entering as evidence has to be given to you as well. If a SW and she gave a statement to the cops you will get that as well.
At this point you will have some kind of an idea as to the case being made against you. Here is where you decide if you want to go to a lawyer or if you can work it out yourself. When it comes to setting a court date, get it out as far as possible, if you get lucky you find yourself in a crowded court and you may get a few adjournments, never refuse them. If you have to wait too long for trial, you got a charter case for getting it thrown out. Get a lawyer only as a last resort or if you find court scary.

Hmmm ok...I guess it's a gamble but I am a pretty good citizen and I actually volunteered for the police for four years and being that I have no priors I thought I would have a good chance. The officer that I dealt with was actually really nice and I figured I could tell him I would plead guilty and take the differal to avoid a criminal record and trial. I know what I did was wrong but to tarnish a perfect record and future possibilities of employment seems a little extreme for asking a girl how much?
The differal option is not something I have dealt with, so I would have to research that. A quick option would be to talk to a legal aid lawyer for an opinion or talk to Duty Counsel when you first go to court. Duty Counsel is free, you won't have much time with him/her but they can steer you in the right direction.

it was just delayed and delayed and delayed one thing after another,
and finally it was just tossed,
the cop that charged him, couldn't appear or some such thing, the cop had moved to another city, or some stuipd thing, any way after a long delay there was no witnesses.
from my court experiances on other matters, i wouldn't represent myself unless i knew what i was doing, and going on, if you do represent yourself spend some time in court and watch the proceedings, get as much free advice as you can

if they offered you to go to "john school", take it. it's $500 i believe but means no record at all. this is the safest option for you. there is alot of negative rhetoric flying around about sex consumers especially with mp joy smith pushing a private members bill to criminalize purchasing sex, you may get an opinionated judge trying to make an example of you.
take the safe road at this time men, if you can get out of it by enduring 8 hrs of brain draining information overload on the exploitation of children....john school is ridiculous, but its the safest option for you to be free and clear.
if found guilty you will never travel to the US again.
another piece of advice from an old time sp....if you see a gorgeous blond healthy looking confident woman standing on the stroll and she catches your eye because you've never seen such a beautiful woman on the street and she's dressed so well etc....c'mon...do i need to draw you a picture?....
the chances are she's a police woman. if she stands out as not belonging and exceptional looking...? looking confident...? workers on street generally have a bit of fear and anxiety in their approach to your car, the way they present them selves on the stroll....confident but not..."i have have 2 cars full of men to protect me and arrest your ass" confident....
know what i mean?

Not just with this case but anytime you need to go to court; make sure you scan the area around the court room for the arresting officer. If they call your case and the crown states that they need more time since the the arresting officer is unavailable press the judge stating that your time is also valuable and want to proceed forthwith. I also had one where the arresting officer approached the judge to inform him that he needed more time to review his arrest notes. Golden, deny them the opportunity to regroup.
This has worked for me since I am self employed and it does cost me $$ to appear and have the case further delayed. Judges will usually side with you if you state how you are being inconvenienced by their lack of preparedness.

Thanks for all the info guys and the offer susi! I will keep you guys posted on what happens. It was pretty weird that the girl just disappeared and the cops did not talk to her so she very well could've been a cop.
Try this. When you go to court, tell them you don't really understand the charges and you want to defer a plea until you can consult with a lawyer and show him the particulars. Tell you don't want to compromise any of the options available to you without a complete understanding of the issues. The judge may enter a no guilty on your behalf with the provision you can change the plea later and still take advantage of the various options. If you have the time spend some of it in remand court and get a feel for the courtroom and the judge(s).

I know you said it was Kingsway, was it in Burnaby? If so you need to fight it and you will probably win. The horsemen will fuck it up for certain. Call the Legal Services Society and get a retired lawyer doing duty council work. They will have years of experience and will be doing it in the interest of the greater good.
Beleive me the police love doing this kind of sting because the offenders are just horny dudes. They aren't going to mess with the HA or UN gang because those are some bad dudes.

For anybody else who happens to read this... it seems that those who "(seldom) do the streetwalker thing" might do well to spend some time out there gaining a sense for vibes and patterns of LE beFORE going for broke with a "hot blonde". If she's real, this probably isn't her first rodeo, and as long as you know in what area she works, you can most likely find her there soon/again/in an hour.
As is the case with any guys who veer across 4 lanes of traffic to swoop to the curb in front of an appealing SW, those doing so too quickly will very often stand-out to the watchful eye of LE. There are many others out there doing what you're inspired to do - you just don't want to stand-out among them. (let somebody else take the fall - you can afford to be more patient)
I'm sorry that the OP had to reach this point, and hopefully others will resist being so impulsive.
I can't say enough about circling around, and then parking a couple of blocks away and approaching on foot, particularly if when "driving home from work" it is daylight and summertime.
