I really liked the article, it brought up some really good points and fits into knight882 question.
It really shows what happens when you lose trust with the public health system. I can see why people may be reluctant to believe health care professionals if they have been lied to in the past.
In regard to the peoples symptoms I have seen many clients over the years that have had similar symptoms. I agree with the doctor in the interview in that I think many of these symptoms are caused by stress, anxiety etc… this is really fuelled by feelings of guilt and shame. It is amazing how much the thinking in the mind can affect the physical health of the body. It is such a shame that sex is surrounded by so much guilt.
One thing that I also saw in the article was the inability of healthcare professionals to provide proper care for these clients. This is something that also happens a lot in Canada as well.
If people are feeling like this giving them more information about HIV transmission, to look at things logical or another HIV test does not really help. It seems the key is around dealing with the emotions that are coming out.
