As many of you know, I’m coming off of one of many suspensions (I think this last one makes a baker's dozen). During my “cool down” period
, it occurred to me that on many respects, I am misunderstood. It might come as a surprise to you to read this, but when I post regarding issues that I feel are worth public consumption, there are a couple of things that happen every single time:
1) people respond in a negative way taking personal liberties at my character eg. nutjob, gossip, crazy, etc...everybody knows this.
What they don’t know is it stings and I’m as human as the next person and no one likes to be insulted. I’m not devoid of emotion. There have been some occasions where some things said have brought me on the verge of tears.
2) People respond to my observations with opinions with the intention of discrediting or in some cases disproving information that I feel is relevant to this industry.
I welcome other opinions and in many cases appreciate the counter arguments to my own. When someone offers an intelligent comment that differs from something I have written, it forces me to think. With the mind, like any other muscle in the body, the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. What people don’t know is that for every post telling me to “shut up” or that I “don’t know what I’m talking about”, I receive a handful of phone calls, PMs, emails and believe it or not, appointments, affirming my opinions which is all they are. Sometimes it’s as simple as a “thank you” or “it’s nice to know that there is someone looking out for us...”. It is for these people that I post. I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not looking for drama, it’s just a necessary evil that comes with having an opinion.
The people that appreciate my reflections aren’t going anywhere. They just don’t feel like a public forum is an appropriate place to show their gratitude. Believe it or not, there are many folks out there that are uncomfortable sharing their thoughts on a public board. So anyone asking themselves, ”Why does she continue to post? Is she just a glutton for punishment?”, this is your answer...
The grandstanding personal attacks of a few PERBerts is a small price to pay to inspire, educate and learn from the hundreds of diverse personalities associated with this industry.
