So, the STV vote was pretty massively against the dumb idea. I guess too many of those in favour of it had the munchies from smoking too much pot and didn't get around to voting.

Meanwhile, why did the leader of the Greens even bother to make a concession speech? Did she really think they had a chance of even winning a single riding?

The pro-STV folks and the Greens got big reality checks tonight, too bad they're too dumb to realize it.

Thank You

I want to thank everyone on this board who made an effort to understand STV, asked reasonable questions about how it worked or provided explanations of STV in an attempt to deal with the sort of ignorance exhibited island-guy's comment above.

It's sad that we're all going to get the sort of government that island-guy asked for.

I voted against it, but I actually think single transferrable vote is a good idea by itself. Too bad BC-STV bundled it with electoral district changes.

Ok, I can't take credit for the words below. I saw them online on a news website. I do think that they explain EXACTLY what is wrong with putting in any sort of PR system, or even something similar to PR like STV.

Using BC-STV to elect legislative members by percent of the vote would be the equivalent of a procedure where if 10% of the population were in favour of capital punishment then 10% of convicted murderers would be put to death.

People who are relegated to a minority status in respect to their political and social views are generally in that category because their viewpoints are deficient. Pandering to those viewpoints to overly influence the legislative process can be very destructive. The best way to have viewpoints that have merit recognised and supported is to convince enough of the population of their worth. With enough support those viewpoints are then brought to the legislative assembly.

There are many other PR syles ( available open party list etc that might work better or even mixed system.. The STV was bungled from the start. Last election people were told ohhh it's far to complicated for you to understand but just vote for it.because it's better. Now this election they tried to pass a system that is only readily used in Malta and Ireland (who by the way have tried to get rid of it unsuccessfully 3 times to return to an FPTP system). It's been around since the 1800's the dutch liked to so much they used it then repealed in after 1915 and went to a different PR system.

But nooo did we hear any of that nope just cakes and sunshine.

Then (on other forums) dealing with some of these pro STV people was completely absurd. However that said I wonder what treveller is going to post about now since over half of his posts dealt with the STV issue.
