ha!

:p

To be honest, there are just too many freakin' options, I can't decide! And so many features I'm not sure what's important or what I should be focusing on! Any input would be greatly appreciated and would help specialize my search a bit more.

Some of the extra features I'm considering:

- HAS to be WIFI enabled.

- A big enough screen!

- A stable, reliable internet browsing experience (ie doesn't constantly crash!).

- Would be nice to have a decent camera on it too.

- ....? (Anything else I should go for?)

So iPhone is definitely one of my options but I'm wondering about others as well.. and there are LOTS of them to choose from.

What smartphone do you own?

If you're happy with it - why would you recommend it?

If you are not happy with it - why would you tell others to avoid it?

Anyone own one of those running on Android operating system? Comments?
Anything will help.
:)

I'm using a Blackberry Curve right now and I love it, but I have always been a berry kinda guy. The only issue I have with mine, is that there is so much information coming and going from it at any given point in the day (I have 5 different emails for my company, and 2 phone numbers set up from this phone), that it tends to freeze every now and then. I have an awesome plan through Fido and I never pay more than $150/month.
It really just depends on your preference. I used to have an iPhone, but could never get used to the whole touch screen thing... berry is the way to go imo...

"it prints money!"

I gave up my iphone and dont miss it at all. Call me rebellious I didnt want to be one of the herd and be connected 24/7 like one of the Jetsons. I see so many people at my work sitting in front of cpu all day than look at smartphone on break, text walking to the car and they look like robots to me.

Do you require a specific provider? Samsung Galaxy (Android) has a great, large screen (bigger than iphone), is thinner and lighter than iphone, and has never crashed on me. Chose it after a month of research and have never regretted it. The Vibrant model with bell (that I have is also the sexiest packaged phone available imo.
I too have a Galaxy as well and so far it has exceeded expectations. Connects to Exchange, hotmail, gmail, twitter, Skype etc.... and supports Flash

Thank you Island Zen and Miss Lux. A relative told me to get a 'droid' and I have begun my research. It is good to get first hand recommendations from people who will be using it for the same purpose.

I really cannot handle a business with the cheap little phone I have!

So, off to find a Samsung droid

Just this side of Bliss
I did some research before I got the HTC Magic. It was touted as the closest thing to an "iPhone killer" if that matters. I just didn't want an iPhone, I don't want someone else controlling my media for me and I HATE iTunes....

Got my son a Samsung Galaxy and it's considerably slower than my HTC Magic. It's a nice phone, though and way cheaper than the Magic.

Down-side of the Magic is that it does not have a standard headphone jack, only one plug on it and it does both the headphone and the charger. Had to buy an adapter to use standard buds with it, also got one that allows charging and 2 headphones connected at once. The adapters were cheap, under $5 online.

I have a Sony Xperia X10, had it for about 5 months now. Built to go head to head with the iphone.Android based. Lots of free apps that work exceptionally well depending on what you're looking for in your apps. Large screen, & when I got it, it had the best camera (that might have changed by now) Easy to use. Mediascape & timescape keeps you connected to facebook, e-mail, music, etc all from a main screen scroll.
It's one that I would say is at least worth looking at.

Take Nokia off my list. They just signed up to supply Microsoft with HW and have MS do the Operating system.

All I see is a blue screen in Nokia's future. Dumbass Nokia, they had a good product too.

Actually, the reason they are doing it is because no one wanted their product, not at the high end where the money is anyway.

Thanks for the comments and advice :)

No, no specific carrier really but I'd like to avoid Bell and Rogers.. I just got (home) internet with Telus so I guess it might be convenient to go with them but I don't mind Virgin either.

Forget it all and just a get a phone that's a phone.
Something that fits beautifully in a little clutch and you won't be tempted to pull out and play with when you're dining out or in the theater or, well... you get my point.

Well I do see your point, as I've never been one to care much for the kind of cell phone I have and refused to even get one until I moved here and had no choice. I'm actually really anal about cell phone etiquette (or lack of) in social situations. My friends would get upset with me because if I was in the middle of conversation with anyone, out having a drink or in the middle of doing something that wouldn't be considered important or urgent, I refused to drop everything to answer the phone. What I hated most about cell phones, was this attitude people have where they assume they should be able to get a hold of you right now whenever they want to because of cell phones. I disagreed and resisted, feeling that the person I'm presently with deserves my full attention and that is not possible when you allow the phone to distract you from that. Conversations are interrupted and then you have to try to pick up where it was left off.

It basically tells the other person that what they have to say, the whole discussion or how much you value the time you spend with them is all pretty low in your priorities. I'm not saying the occasional call that lasts a few seconds or the important call you knew you'd have to take.. I mean the frequent calls and texts that can and should wait to be answered later.

Also, if you saw the size of my handbag or the amount of stuff I carry around....fitting this into a small clutch is a scary, scary thought I'd only rarely force myself to consider. LOL

I gave up my iphone and dont miss it at all. Call me rebellious I didnt want to be one of the herd and be connected 24/7 like one of the Jetsons. I see so many people at my work sitting in front of cpu all day than look at smartphone on break, text walking to the car and they look like robots to me.

The thing I can't deny is that at this time a plain phone like the one I have, is just not the most practical choice for me, considering how beneficial a smartphone would be and how much easier it would make my life in regards to work. It also makes sense to buy a kickass phone that has a decent camera, wifi, on which I can store some and listen to music and other media instead of going out and buying a new iPod for the one I lost, a new camera for the one that broke, a new laptop which I especially need for travel, for the one that was stolen...

If 1 single phone can cover all of those things, it makes more sense to do it this way than to buy all individual items. I also have to say that I find it really frustrating and limiting to have to constantly check my computer for emails and often getting emails for last minute requests when it's already too late eventhough I was available but simply did not see the email. My reality isn't a life sitting in a cubicle, one that starts at 9am and ends at 5pm every day.. it's totally different and unpredictable for the most part. Basically, there are too many benefits and it makes far more sense to get a smartphone at this time. My problem, as it often is, is choosing which one to buy! ha!

Probably the best smartphone in the market now: HTC Desire HD

This is one that has caught my eye.
As well as the Samsung Galaxy, which was also mentioned in a few posts.

What about the Motorola Backflip & Motorola Milestone?
I'm curious - Does anyone have experience with either of those?

If I recall, correctly, Virgin Mobile is owned by BELL. Telus wants to make sure they have a monopoly on all your services (bundles, etc, etc) before they actually cave in and give you a deal. My preference for now is the Samsung Galaxy. My second preference would be the Blackberry Torch.

Actually, up until about 3 years ago they were still setting cell phones which would drop down to analog mode when digital wasn't available, and selling analog specific bag phones to logging companies etc, however now the last of the analog networks are being shutdown so those days are gone for good.

Avoid Nokia and any of the Windows 7 phones... An iPhone or any Samsung phone is probably the best choice.

I have a BB Torch and while I can't say I love it, it does the job. The Torch also has not been embrace by developers to this point and there are not a lot of apps specifically for the touch screen.
If you can wait a little longer a lot of dual core phones will be hitting the street in the next month or so.

Virgin Canada is owned by Bell. Telus = meh... Rogers = LAME! Wind or Mobilicity offer better deals, but the coverage in the sticks is spotty.
