What's wrong with Vancouver Canuck fans?

Thousands and thousands of assholes just standing around taking pictures of the fires and of themselves. Next time they should bring in tanks and run them all down.

So who else is embarassed to call Vancouver home right now? :(
For a "world class city" people aren't acting like it. Sore losers.

I'm downtown, and am thankfully in the nice and quieter part of town, and can't see what's happening. 2 cars set on fire, HSBC window smashed in, from what i've heard.
A lot more than 2 cars.

I think it was a big mistake to have outdoor big screen coverage of the game. That just invites more crowds. Although i'm sure the riot would've happened regardless.

I just hope it doesn't get pushed down to my end!
No, the mistake was allowing it to get to game 7 in Vancouver. It was pretty predictable that they would both lose and that there would be a riot.

Sometimes I really hate the media......

The more attention these idiots get, the more they'll act out.

Makes me wonder if treating them like small children and ignoring them to begin with when they started to throw their temper tantrums would've prevented it all from escalating.

I'm embarassed right now.
Heh...where I come from they would have been getting bullets hours ago :)

Getting to the finals is OK, but going to game 7 is bad, especially if it is in the city. Worse would be a loss in overtime. I was thinking that it might be fun driving through downtown waving Bruins flags and playing Queens "We are the champions, no time for losers" as loud as I could, but maybe that would have been a wee bit provocative! ;)

I just left dt about an hour ago and everyone is going
crazy. I'm a pretty big guy but leaving dt was really
scary. Fights were breaking out next to me, broken
glass was everywhere and I also heard about someone
getting stabbed. As I was on the only bus as it seems
getting out of dt 3 more fights broke out but this was
no where near dt it was on Hastings near Hawaiian Spa.

Sad to be a Vancouverite right now.

I just hope all my co workers got out safe.

I have to echo most of the comments here, it's fucking disgusting that people are capable of this.
However, i'm going to go out on a limb and say that the majority of the idiots instigating the riots and looting are not even hockey fans, shit was going to happen either way.

Funny, I heard on the news that there were no riots in Surrey at the big out door screen they had there. Surely some of the same people causing the riots downtown would be too lazy to brave the 2+ hour commute into downtown, and would therefore mess up their own city. This seems to suggest that the "they are from Surrey" opinion is probably (mostly) baseless. You would think that this group of all groups would be a bit more sensitive to stereotypes.

No one wrecks their own home, they go to someone else's house to do the wrecking. I think it is a safe bet that the majority of the thugs on the street were not from Vancouver.

another sad part is the fact that it was all young people in late teens-early 20's. the youth (especially males) in this city is so warped. none of them have a conscience. all they care about is picking fights and accumulating tattoos. sure there was the retards doing the damage, but then what about all the other idiots who rather then getting the hell out of there (like a normal thinking person would do), decided to just stand there and take pictures. pure stupidity.

These are probably the same Black Bloc anti Olympics type anarchist group that started this. Get a few to blend in with the Canucks fans then incite violence and watch it grow. The mostly young men/hooligans will jump in on the action. If things die down then move to another location and start a fire or break windows, etc. It does not take too big a group to cause massive problems. Obviously there is an agenda against the establishment. This was going to happen whether the Canucks win or lose.

When you want 100,000 + ppl in one area, you're asking for trouble. Im sure if we lost the Gold Medal game, there probably would of been a riot. I was glad as soon as the game was over, I headed south and left downtown asap

I live beside the Rogers arena. Tonight on my balcony I witnessed a young kid jump off the freeway overpass and hurt himself. I watched people go crazy and destroy other peoples property. I seen and heard disgruntled fans acting like idiots and ruining things our city has worked so hard gain. This whole situation makes me feel terrible. Ya, we lost, but we also had a great season. I cant understand why anyone would want to destroy and disrespect our great city. Isnt canada supposed to be about peace and love? I feel really sad that "fans" and supporters of our city and team treated my home like this :(

This makes me really sad....watched the game at a friend's place, had a great bbq, and while it was disappointing and devastating to watch our team lose in game 7, it was nothing compared to waking up to the news this morning what had happened last night downtown. On a hockey note...Vancouver just ran outa gas, Thomas was a wall....they won, see ya next year.

As for the riots and the rioters; hope you all get what you deserve. Fucking animals. Fuck you for ruining it for everyone else. How do you feel since you've sobered up, and now have seen your faces on the web this morning? How do you think your boss will feel about seeing you infront of burning cars, or looting London Drugs, or your parents, and other associates? Sorry to the animals I just insulted by using the word 'animal' to describe these criminals.

Many cities worldwide, including Boston, have their share of morons who look for any excuse to act like morons.
This is probably the best point: this city is full of idiots looking for any 'excuse' to act like ones. There was nothing controversial about the game that might get people's tempers up; Boston won it fair and square.

I am very saddened that once again we are unable to host a big event, lose and still act like a decent society. I truly hope that each jerk caught on video who committed a crime does some jail time. Forget restitution or fines; put them in with the regular prison population for six months.
