What went wrong America, what went wrong?

In a nice wet pussy!
Shocking to witness America the Beautiful, a nation that is touted as the best place to live on this Earth, after taking a kick in the soft underbelly, in a medium sized city, rapidly becoming unravelled and descending into anarchy and lawlessness. What happened? What went wrong with the American dream? What does Homeland Security mean, when all Mother Nature has to do is to fart, and the whole dream implodes?

I hate to think what might have happened if 250,000 lives had been lost. The nations that were struck with the Boxing Day tsunami certainly can be held up as a shining example of how human dignity and compassion for the poor and downtrodden are valuable commodities at times like these.

One cannot help but wonder if "The Big One" strikes a major West Coast city, that a cataclysmic reaction unheard of in the annals of history would befall and bring down America in less than a week.

It's time to pull up your socks America and look back at the morass you have left behind in your rush to become a two-car family Nation, with sixty inch Plasma TVs in the Family Room, a freezer bulging at the seams with Tenderloins, and an obesity rate exceeding sixty percent!

You forgot the ever increasing shrinking of the middle class and distance between rich and poor, and the alienation of the black community which is literally once again being exposed before our very eyes. Something tells me there would be a bigger sense of urgency if we saw more white faces in trouble. This could either spur all out change or civil war. Where's Snake Plissken when you need him?

LK - on the surface you seem to have made a racists statement. Only poor blacks are capable of such low morale conduct. Only a poor black would rape a woman in a refugee shelter... Only a poor black would shoot at a helicopter that was coming to rescue people.

But I am watching this on TV. I am watching a predominately black community go out of control.

You can explain it away with a division between the rich and the poor... but to me there is a division between the moral and the immoral.

Is it my imagination? I percieved that right after the Tsunami various nations around the world were offering help and the USA themselves provided major assistance. Now, however, I just don't see the world offering shit. Is the "I hate America" thing causing this?

You forgot...mostly poor black people are being left starving and dying in the streets. Ahhh, sure, I'm the racist. I see. It was Canada that has treated that segment of YOUR population like shit all these years.

I don't think it's the "I hate America thing", it's just the world probably perceives it as America being richer and less in need of help than the other.

I think it's because the US hasn't asked for help.

Here is an article on Canadian's and BC's participation

The US doesn't really need help, rather than simply have to co-ordinate their efforts better. They have the resources. Having said that, including Canada, about 20 countries have pledged their support.

Yes. A country has to receive permission to enter another country, even if it is offering help that it assumes the other country needs.

Otherwise, people will question your true motives and call you invaders. This will lead to guerilla warfare, suicide bombers, all that stuff.

Someone in another thread said this is bigger then the twin towers going down in NYC and I honestly think they are right.
I think you're right as far as the amount of lives that will ultimately be lost. Unfortunately, they're mostly black lives which apparently don't count as much down there. Also, the fact the U.S. was attacked by a foreigner was the real issue.

What went wrong, America? Indeed!

The richest country in the world descends into total chaos and lawlessness almost before the winds have died down. What Katrina has exposed is how truly thin the veneer is that holds modern American society together.

This is "Lord of the Flies", live and being beamed into your living room. Any resemblence to reality TV is purely coincidental.

Not sure but after the tsunami there were not snipers shooting at hospital patients and rapes occuring in relief shelters. The US has demonstrated that it took all of 72 hours for Animal Farm to come true in conditions that other places in the world endure on an all too regular basis.

The problem US has with image is due to a lunatic fringe minority. The give those idiots the right to bear arms etc. and then when something like this happens, they wonder how it all can go so wrong so fast......

Real politically incorrect thing to say.........but yeah most nations HATE the Americans.

Not to say these people should be faulted for living in a country that is governed by a bunch of idiots.

Other nations don't have the means to step up......financially. And IMO, if a country can finance a war in Iraq, then they can surely clean up a natural disaster in their own country.

I'd like to leave politics out of this. I see people in trouble and it shouldn't matter what their race, religion or nationality is. And if people don't want to help, they better hope that the next disaster isn't in their country cause the US will probably have vast resources that they will need.

This would definitely buy a lot of relief for the hurricane victims.

Well said and done, even the bum couldnt have said it better.

This was a big ass tropical storm, and yes I feel for the innocents down there..

but how do you think it feels for the iraqis to be bombed to shits, have their water knocked out.. no electricity. suicide bombers everywhere.. WHOLE FUCKING COUNTRY IS IN CHAOS.. WORSE now that when saddam was in power.... not for 1 day.. not two days.. freaking Years....

yet, no one cares..

This should be a wake up call in the US. If a tropical storm like this can cause as cnn calls it " urban warfare " , " chaos " , etc..

can you imagine god forbid, a big massive terrorist attack in US soil? or if north korea do manage to send a nuke to the west coast.... whole freaking country would break down.. and gangs will rule the landscape.

As I read the thread that nonchalantly discusses which guns are the best to mow down a room full of people in this forum I wonder how much the easy access to guns in the US exa****ated this disaster. I read the stories about snipers inhibiting rescue efforts. People shooting at police and soldiers. Other violence....
