RCMP have arrested a father and son in connection with the death of Taylor van Diest, an 18-year-old who was found badly beaten near railway tracks in Armstrong, B.C., last Halloween.

Matthew Foerster, 26, and his father, Stephen Roy Foerster, 58, both of Cherryville, B.C., are in custody, RCMP announced Thursday in Armstrong.

The son, now being held after being arrested in Ontario, has been charged with second-degree murder and the father has been charged with obstruction of justice after being arrested at his B.C. home.

Matthew Foerster was arrested Wednesday at a motel in Collingwood, Ont., on a Canada-wide warrant. Ontario Provincial Police and Ontario RCMP members assisted B.C. RCMP officers in the arrest, said RCMP Insp. Brendan Fitzpatrick.

"The arrest was completed without incident and efforts are underway to transport him back to B.C. to answer to the charges," Fitzpatrick said.

Matthew Foerster has also been charged with one count of sexual assault and unlawful confinement in connection with the April 12, 2005, sexual assault of a Kelowna escort.

He is facing additional charges in connection with a home invasion that took place Oct. 19, 2004, in Cherryville, B.C., in which a 19-year-old woman was assaulted, said Fitzpatrick.

He is scheduled to appear in court April 10.

Stephen Foerster was arrested Wednesday and also remanded in custody Thursday until he appears in court again on April 11.

Van Diest was attacked on Oct. 31 while she was walking along railway tracks on her way to a friend's place in Armstrong, about 70 kilometres north of Kelowna.

She was later found by friends but died in hospital.

A composite sketch of a suspect was released by police in November after DNA was used to connect van Diest's death to the sexual assault of a Kelowna escort in 2005.

yes, pieces of shit - but the smell of them is exceeded by that of the 'justice' system that left the younger one free after his previous convictions. you can say what you like, but in a place like texas or florida or arizona that young piece of shit would have been behind bars until he couldn't even get wood! how much time do you think he'll serve for this one?

They are not men at all, but cowards. Real men, at least men morals, wouldn't have helped cover up and been charged with accessory after the fact, they would have done the right thing and turned their son in.

IIRC, the father is charged with obstruction of justice.

They don't say what exactly the father did, I suspect that he was probably wasn't being helpful regarding the escort assault allegation and didn't know about the murder. Some people (probably quite a few) would not regard sexual assault on an escort as a crime, and that is one of the problems that the ladies on this board no doubt have to face. If this guy was one of those people it might explain his actions.

Since it is all lumped together in the story it looks like he was assisting in covering up with the murder, but chances are he didn't know anything about that or didn't believe it. Parents are kind of like that.

If I ever did anything like this, my Dad would be the first to call the police - after giving me what I deserve, if you know what I mean!

Ya, but his dad likely didn't know that he did that. All he probably knew was that his son was in some sort of consent dispute with an escort, and most parents would probably take their childrens side and help them in that sort of situation.

From what I read the father has a criminal record too, and was "known to police" long before his son was.

Where's the like button? :thumb:

And with apologies to Bijou, these types of individuals (at least the son), I would rather see put to death (with DNA evidence) than to pay $50-$60 thousand dollars a year for the rest of their life to house and feed, meanwhile victimizing other prisoners who are there for minor offences, and with the (albeit remote) chance that they could one day escape!

When I saw this I just keeping thinking who the fuck would hurt such a beautiful young woman. Never mind kill her. It's really hard to fathom.

And no matter how angry you get a the perpetractor, and talk about killing him or giving him life, she's still dead, and that's the really sad part. I just can't comprehend why someone could kill this young woman.

I would have to agree, and no matter what happens to the perpetrator, her family will still be in alot of pain for the rest of their lives.
