It's most commonly used in the US where setting up a rendezvous usually requires a gent to provide his full name, verifiable work information and references from established and independent ladies.
Some ladies use it in leiu of other screening methods. Most use it in conjunction with.
Ladies who are date check members can verify clients and 'rate' them (only if the gent asks to be added). Any other ladies who are part of the date check team can add comments on the gent (recommend or not).
Once a gent has been verified, he gets a date check ID. When booking with a lady who is a member of datecheck, he can provide the ID, she can see who he has visited with previously and their comments -and that can be used as a reference.
It's basically a preemptive way to give out references. Ladies proactively vouch for good gents, and other ladies may use that as part or all of their screening. It saves time in having to chase down references by keeping them all neatly in one place.
