Ok , I know its premature until this is all passed , but a couple of questions/ statements.
There used to be a law that allowed prostituition but they couldn't sell it...now they can sell it , but no one can buy it? Really its the same law , only they changed who is in the wrong???
What will happen to incall places?? They will be allowed to operate one , but no one is allowed to purchase what they are selling?
They cant advertise, how the hell can they sell , but even if they sell , no one can buy. Why don't they do this with marijuana and eliminate all the drug dealers?? You can sell it...but no one can buy it...hmmmmm do I forsee a problem here???
I believe this whole thing will get worse , and drive it further underground. I'll bet you the bikers etc are rubbing there hands together!
Or am I missing something??

Not Always Sure...
It doesn't matter just discussing it on the phone is now illegal. If the cops set up a sting it doesn't matter whether you show up to the hotel or not the conversation itself will be illegal
True - attempting to purchase sexual services would be illegal; you could purchase companionship, which I think is how they do it in the U.S. You could likely negotiate their time, but this is what I meant in a previous post: any discussion of sexual services would get you busted. They can't advertise sexual services as menu items, and you can't negotiate menu items by phone, email, nor text 'cause if it's a sting you're busted.

How is that? A phone conv is private not public.
Doesn't matter. Under the bill as it stands you can't offer to purchase sexual services anywhere, public or private.

The bill has just been introduced. There is yet to be a lot of discussion amongst legal experts regarding exactly what this bill makes illegal or not. For example is a phone conversation private or public?
As well, whose to say this bill would withstand a challenge in the Supreme Court just like the old one couldn't? I could see this new law being challenged almost as soon as it passes.
Two things: the conservative government has been resistant to listening to the opinion of legal experts in a variety of areas across the board: environmental laws; their war on science; the unfair elections act; supreme court appointments… the list goes on. They don't appear to care what experts think and I don't know why they'd start now, with this particular bill.

Second - I agree. The supreme court will trounce this bill given their Bedford decision, no question in my mind (disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer). Remember though, that supreme court challenges have often taken up to eight years to work themselves out. That's a long time to be facing a criminal code conviction as a sexual offender, just for getting together with your favourite lady.

Ok , I know its premature until this is all passed , but a couple of questions/ statements.

You're not missing a thing, unfortunately. Good summary. If this bill passes as is the industry will have to go underground and everyone suffers for it. S.P.'s will probably be able to advertise companionship but not sex. if there's any talk or exchange of considerations for services it's the John who's in the wrong and will face somewhere between a $1000 fine and 5 years in jail, unless you're in public in which case both are busted.

We need to sit back now and see if amendments to the bill are forced by parliament or the senate before it passes into law - probably in the fall.

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
I'm just replying to this because another so and myself were discussing this.
I've been working for some years and I remember when we had to be very carefull. There were always busts on the MP's as well as the agencies. We just took certain precautions before discussing services and rates. We would always ask if they are an officer which by law they do have to tell as well as we would ask if they could touch us somewhere or vice versa since police are by no way or means allowed to do that. If both parties pass the test then we got down to it.
What I'm getting at is there are always ways around this , if they are going to target the men I would suggest that you guys do the same . Any sp would understand why. As well if its illegal for us to advertise , all we have to do is just cut out the services and rates that are listed in our ads and discuss that in person. I think it would still be okay to go see a touring girl you had your eye on at a hotel or what not. It's just that we will have to be more carefull I think. Prostitutiaon ( respectfully speaking) has been around since the beginning. As long as there is horny men and women will to capitalise on it . They cant get rid of us
If the government was smart and not run by a bunch of fascists right winged half wits they would realise to legalise prostitution . this could be a million dollar even billion dollar industry . but nope. Don't worry guys where there is will there is a way
You're right, there will be ways around it but I think a law like this would open things up for a lot of abuse by cops.
First of all, not related to the new law, a cop does NOT have to tell you he's a cop. Your not the first working girl I've heard say this and all I can say is that is some really bad advice someone's given you. Cops are allowed to use "deceit" as an investigative tool. How do you think undercover work is done? They can also use it as an interrogation technique when they'll try to make you think they know more than they do and trick you into a confession.
The good old touching idea is also not guaranteed to work. Fact of life. Cops lie! A lawyer friend of mine told me a story about a client he defended a few years ago. This guy got busted for communicating in public for the purpose of outside the Mount Royal. Him and the female cop got into his car and he did the old touch my penis thing before discussing anything. She did and then busted him. She then denied ever doing so. The guy pled out and went to John School. My lawyer friend told him that at court when it comes down to it with the exception of maybe one or two judges they will always believe the cop before the accused.
Just saying that the only way to not get busted and to be 100% certain the other party is not a cop will be to stick to regulars, MP's and referrals from trusted friends. No more TOFTT with new ladies or you ladies seeing a new guy without some assurance.
That's why this is stupid law which endangers the ladies even more and will certainly drive things underground. IMHO it will also increase pimping and exploitation because new ladies, especially the younger ones, wanting to get into the profession will feel the need to maybe hook up with someone who can provide some kind of screening/security.

I know when I got stung I kissed the undercover officer when I was greeted by him. Also when I let my guard down & went to he lounge he got cozy with me & rubbed my leg a few times. Acting completely like a normal fellow I would see. Plus I would have never guessed him to be a cop.
Then in court fighting my by-law tickets he lied right to the judge that I suggested we go for a drink (I don't drink). I told him to order room service. He also said he took my coat. Irrelevant the coat but was still a lie. I wore it to the lounge.
It was pure entrapment & I will always have my guard up. My gut even told me that night something wasn't right. I even said to a fellow sp "if I get busted tonight you going to bail me out?". She said make sure you bring lots of board games because of the way my EC ad is written up.
There are no entrapment laws in Canada & they will lie on a bible under oath to a judge. Funny when I got to cross examine his recollection of that night I asked him how he could stand there after taking an oath, look the judge in the eyes & lie.

My question: What the fuck did these girls, who challenged that laws, expect??? Dumb-asses.... Now they killed it for everyone.
+1 to that. I am extremely careful what I do, never meet any girl in public and all that. If this new law comes in I am done with this hobby.....might pick up a mistress again and all the headaches that come with that. LOL
