The most important thing is battery polarity. Connect positive to positive and negative to negative.

Sorry,,a little sarcastic I know, but after thinking about all the Morons around I guess it should be pointed out.:D

I've also heard that when connecting the cables, on the car that you are boosting connect the negative booster cable to the frame instead of the battery post. not sure if that is right or not.

That is correct... it acts as a better ground... but it doesn't really matter most of the time since the negative terminal on the donor car should be well grounded anyways.

indeed it should but on older models who knows what can be wrong with it. if you are using a newer model car best to be safer than sorry. I've never heard of anyone ever having a problem with their circuitry after boosting this way.

Considering that this all happened in an alley...I would have kept on rollin', without so much as a how-ya-do. Every dipshit on the planet knows that a cab will jump ya for 10 bills or so. And if they don't know this, well, too friggin'.

umm usually a little steeper than 10 bucks. usually upwards of 20. If the fellow is driving a older model car; older than 10 years old, chances are he or she may not have the coin. I know, I've been there. Seems like alot of people have the idea that everything is a scam. Wake up, it's not. I think we are obligated as humans to help out our fellow man. A boost really is not that much to ask. If you feel uncomfortable helping him out personally, at least phone someone, hell, even the cops. They usually help out as well if nothing else is pressing. nothing is worse than having trouble and knowing that noone will stop to help you. Been there a few times.

Yaw. I guess it may have gone up. I haven't needed a boost since sometime in the mid-80s.
Regardless, lemme embellish my previous post a little. Perhaps what I should have said was, I'd keep on rollin', without so much as a how-ya-do, because I know that sooner or later a dude like you will roll up and help him out. ;)

The exact location was the alley behind the Astoria. Pretty well lit up and by no means considered to be in the middle of no where. Tons of phones, people, taxi's, and oh ya cops around to get help from.

Dude was gone less than 10 min later so somebody musta helped the poor bastard out. Scam....well maybe, but more on my mind was fukking up my own car. The g*d damn thing is running up to spec and we all know that when it comes to car repairs the next problem can be as close as one start away.

Like someone posted; why break one thing to fix another.

If I'm ever the one fukked and no one helps me then sucks to be me I guess. So there's nothing wrong with pulling thee old boy scout maneuver and being prepared.

In a nice wet pussy!
If you really want to be a good Samaritan, and know what you're doing...

Offer to call the Police for him, and watch his eyes and his reaction.

If he declines, it's a setup. If he accepts, he's probably OK.

This has nothing to do with greed or a self absorbed attitude (which btw I agree is a HUGE problem in society these days) because the owner's manual that came with my previous car even warned about the very same topic.
Owners manuals are written with input from company lawyers in order to provide weasel words to let the manufacturer avoid and liability for their product. Ie: If this product is used by the purchaser for its intended purpose, the warranty shall be voided.

The right thing to do, but he deserved....

Yeah Hitrack, that was the right thing to do. The dumb sod should've been spending his dollars first on BCAA or fixing his car instead of picking up street whores... he wouldn't have been in that situation had he had better priorities. You gotta wonder what other stupid things he does with his life.

If it were me, I would've driven backward into the side of his car and give him a nice dent to think about too. LOL

Hey George! What's with your recent posts? You're really starting to sound like your namesake, and it's really not very becoming.

HiTrack, I think it's all about personal choice. If my car was all reved and tuned like yours, I probably wouldn't let anybody even lean against it. However, if I had a battery in my trunk, I would have given a boost. Fuck man, don't sweat it. You were in an area where one must always be on guard, and the guy got help within 10 minutes. Like most of life, this is not a black and white issue. :)
