I just read avery disturbing report in the Bangkok Post. I am presently in Northern Thailand. Without going into details it involved canabilism, the R. Picton murder case and pork products sold in Vancouver in the past few years. Has this story been reported in the local papers and if so what is the local reation. I can imagine it is not pretty and it makes me glad that I was eating a vegitarian diet when lasyt I lived in that city.

NONE of Picktons pork products ever hit the mainstream foodchain. This means that if you bought your meat products from a supermarket like Safeway or Save-on-foods or a Real Canadian Superstore etc you would not have consumed any of Picktons products. Picktion served it up to friends and sold it to people that visited his farm. He also gave it to others to take home, hence the notice went out to the media for anyone with meat from Pickton in their freezers should notify the police.

This kind of reminds me of one of the Silence of the lambs sequals, where Hannibal Lector feeds the human remains to his pigs. I would never have thought that I would read this in reality, Damn!

Thanks-I did not realize that it was the pigs that were fed human remains and then processed into food. As disturbing as this is I can not help be rminded of the Swiss Air crash of a few years ago. Apparently only about 60% of the human remains from that crash were recovered. The rest ended up on the ocean floor and was presumably consumed by scavangers and bottom dwellers in the ocean. One of the main scavangers would be lobster who eat just about anything thast falls to the sea floor. People eating lobster from St. Marys bay then in the years following this disaster were in fact eating humans remains one step down the food chain. Kind of make you think twice about ordering lobster.

Picton was arrested over two years ago thus any meat he handed out to friends, etc must be similarly aged or older. Any meat that is that old and still in a freezer would be so badly freezer burned it would be inedible.

Actually this was worse than feeding human remains to pigs then butchering the pigs at some point. This would not result in eating human DNA. If this were the case there would be no point in telling people to hand over any pork products they may still have as the DNA would not become a part of the pigs flesh after being consumed and therefore would not be detectable. What the police are talking about is actually mixing human remains into the pork products, for eg mixing ground human remains into ground pork(for sausages). This would have resulted in people actually consuming human remains. That is why the police want any sample that may exist. Testing may then reveal both pig dna and human dna in the samples.
