guy i know from vancouver went to italy, and because of italy's reputation for fashion figured they better take at least one set of high end gear for going out to special places

when he got home he was all glum because the tradespeople in italy went to WORK better dressed than the very best he owned!

Honestly, who gives a rat's ass about some snobbish magazine and MSN's ratings on anything? You should simply dress the way you like. As long as you feel comfortable in your clothes, that is all that counts.

The people in Vancouver and the GVRD are the second worst dressed people I have ever seen, with only Seattle beating them out, When I was in Spain this summer not one lady wore yoga pants and not one female under the age of 14 wore leggings and I don't think any woman over there would want to be caught dead in them.I was thankful for that, as I think yoga pants are part of the degeneration of women's fashion (but that's another rant).

I think our fashion sense is so poor as group because it is not as high a priority as it is there. All the women wore nice dresses, jewelry and shoes. Was the same in Prague, too. Granted, they are closer geographically to some pretty high end fashion houses but think in general they take much more pride in there appearance and the results are fantastic.

Who can take these rating serious?

Didnt some other major publication just rate Vancouver 3rd as most livable, and the drop was due to some highway on the Island being shut down for a day or something?

But yeah, other cities do dress better than here, not sure if I'd say 3rd worst. But most of Europe that I have been to, and the Eastern states, dress is more important.

Honestly who cares what the rating is by some third rate media service?

I LOVE seeing women in Yoga Pants if they have the hot bod to do it. I just love seeing a great ass in a pair of Lulu Lemon pants.

Bless Lulu Lemon for being the success that it is throughout the world.

Here is one of the reasons they state in the article:

Vancouver has been rated as the third-worst- dressed city in the world, according to an article on MSN Travel, and they had only one reason for it: yoga pants.

The author’s biggest complaint is that yoga pants are worn for every daily activity except for going to the gym.

Vassilena Johns, a personal stylist in Vancouver, said even though the city is expanding in its knowledge of fashion, the West Coast health-oriented lifestyle has become the uniform.

“Don’t wear yoga pants out,” said Johns. “All you need to do is spend some extra time and effort on finding outfits that are just as comfortable with flattering material.”

Nine out of the 10 cities named in the article are located in North America, with Ottawa at No. 8 as the only other Canadian city on the list.

Hunka makes Vancouver worst dressed list. His style is Bellbottoms and Members only Jacket. Both in tan.

Cheer up, you're still # 1 in hockey rioting

Hmm not sure, I still think Montreal's got better riots. LOL :p

As for the rating.. Relax, people. There is nothing wrong with yoga pants. I am glad you feel strongly about Lululemon and I personally am used to this style now. I did have a bit of a tough time when I first moved here (sorry, the whole Lululemon thing can be quite overwhelming at first) but I eventually learned to embrace it. It's the easy, lazy way to dress and now I take it for granted. Actually, the other day I was thinking about how much more work it would/will be if/when I go back to Montreal eventually. So it's all good with me, way easier here. (Although if I'm honest I would have to admit that I still miss awesome hair style and wish it was like that here. For the most part, hair styles here are boring and all the same. Oh well.)

I understand defending yoga pants by saying they look good, they are comfortable and you have a right to wear them out - which is all fine - BUT there is a huge difference between defending it and attempting to argue that it's fashionable. It.is.not.fashion. The fact that it might qualify as bad fashion sense to anyone not from Vancouver can't possibly be a surprise to anyone?!

AA Train, when I see you on the front of GQ, I will then take your "fashion" opinions seriously:pound:

Hubba, I know it's meant to be a joke but seriously, have you ever been to Europe? I don't think it takes being on the front of GQ to be able to tell the difference. It's like night and day.

Good one uncleg. : )
Let's not forget the visuals of a "nose laugh"... donairs coming out of his nose and onto his brown shoes.

Back to the thread, I have nothing against the yoga pants attire. It's the dirty and tattered hemline of the said yoga pants that I despise.

Wether or not the people of Vancouver care about how the world sees us it is important. People dress way to casually at work, in resaurants and bars and when walking around downtown. Purpose built clothes like yoga pants, runners, flip flops, jogging shorts (nutters) are meant to be worn during designed activities.

When people look at sloppy dressed workers on casual Friday they percieve them as lazy and uncaring. I've never been anywhere in the world where the ladies wear so many black leggings as here WTF? Even during the recent hot spell the leggings were everywhere, under shorts, dresses and skirts.

Personally I dress the way I do for me. I'm always the most polished looking guy in the room. That means ties, jackets and polished shoes. To some it may not matter but to me it's very important.

Hey, I'm not saying I'm god's gift to fashion, although I do rock a suit pretty darn well if you ask me. :D
