Accusing a politician of hypocrisy is like accusing the sky of being blue. That being said, it does not invalidate the message. Even if the people in denial are right and there is no mminent calamity, does that mean we shouldn't care about the quality of the air that we breathe? Sheeesh.

Absolutely, we should all do our part. But its an insult to your intellience if you allow buy into Gore's do as I say, not as I do line.

As your resident radical vegan tree-hugger, I will politely add that IMHO Gore is an embarrassment to the environmental movement. Not quite as bad as David Suzuki - the bungling dilettante - but dubious nonetheless.

In Gore's defense, though, what really needs to be performed is some sort of standardization by which total energy usage or carbon dioxide production is referenced per occupant, per cubic metre, etc. This will not only tell us that a larger house with more occupants uses more energy (which is pretty frickin' obvious!) but that the Gores are actually more wasteful.

Lastly, if I had all of that money, say, from mega-sales of my documentary, I'd hire a team of environmental consultants and architects to design and build the perfect green home. Then I'd drink a big soy-milk smoothie and go bang me a few of 'dem purdy granola chicks. Now THAT'S living!! :)

Vroom… now you are heading this conversation in a sane direction….

If I believed that man was the cause of global warming (and I do not) then the people who have excessive contributions to greenhouse gases would be treated as criminals.

But figuring who is causing the greenhouse gases is complex….

There are lots of plants in Asia that spew out huge amounts of gases into the atmosphere. They do that because there are Americans who buy that shit they make. If I was going to fix the problem, I would not allow imports into the US of goods that were produced in those plants. But no one wants to fix the problem. Not the eco-terrorists. Not the right wing wackos…. Not the vast major of world citizens…. What we want is a talking point…. Something to bitch about or something to ridicule the hypocrites.

No one is actually trying to fix it… Therefore I conclude no one believes this is a real problem.

LD revealed!

Hate to out'im but I found his personal website... You go, girl! Go after them henious Hollywood types? Stamp out nudity & moral decay! You missed your chance in trying to ban Rock 'n Roll, but maybe you'll be more successful now.

(Or is it one of the other right wing cranks going on about the Warren Court, etc.???)

http://www.conservativetruth.org/article.php?id=2764

[If you ask the Hollywood types if there is an anti-Christian, anti-family, anti-conservative values agenda is that demonic city, they reply with an emphatic, "No!" But look at the evidence.

They say that sexually explicit and violent content is what America wants.
Hollywood is also dominated by God-haters who consistently portray Christians as devious, stupid liars who prey on innocent and simple-minded people. In fact, anyone who identifies himself as religious or conservative in Hollywood is persecuted.

Actresses who refuse to do sexually explicit scenes are blacklisted. Directors who don't toe the line find themselves without work.]

When Fuhrer Bush landed on the aircraft carrier to celebrate his "Mission Unaccomplished", how much energy did that consume?

Criticising one side for having a large enrgy bill while the other pisses away half a trillion dollars and kills a few hundred thousand people, that is a fair comparison.

WW – let me try again. If you believe that man is the cause of global warming then Bush landing on the carrier would add to the problem. So if Bush was traveling around the globe preaching to the world they need to cut the use of energy, he should have and would have been criticized.

Let me site another example that may help highlight Gore’s hypocrisy. Gore’s nemesis Rush Limbaugh has breached personal responsibility and low tolerance for criminal behavior. He became addicted to prescription drugs, a problem many people have. But Rush received and deserved the negative attention he got over his addiction, because of his publicly stated positions on person responsibility.

So in these two incidents Gore and Rush have a lot in common, they preach one thing and then do another. That entitles them to a high degree of public ridicule and to wear the title of hypocrite for at least a few weeks.

This story will disappear soon, just like Rush’s episode is long forgotten. Chicken Little just needs to hold off for a month or two before announcing his candidacy for the Democratic nominee. At which time the Wicked Witch of New York State will cast a spell upon Gore and he will turn into a frog.

Yeah, whatever.....did you even read the link? The one that took the entire context of the interview in question into consideration, and not just little snippets like so many partisan-motivated, deliberately blind hacks did?

Of course he didn't... he don't read anything but cyrillic texts, and then only when they spout back the same drivel he dishes out.

But it's nice to know his ignorance of the environment (albeit spoon fed by the multimillion dollar disinformation campaign led by Exxon) is surpassed only by his lack of knowledge about politics
*snicker*
I've said it before and I'll say it again, this guy is going for the Democrat's nomination for the presidency. The "movie" was part of his master plan. He will be announcing it soon.
Oh, and RH still wants us all to know tobacco don't cause cancer, so flame on! He can cite the testimony of tobacco moguls before Congress on this one.

CL - now that you have turned to a different topic..... Do you ever wonder why Gore is not against smoking? He was in the WH for 8 years... never brought it up..

Hmmmmmm he is from Tennessee and that is tobacco country. Can you just image the repercussions from his supporters if he went after tobacco growers like he goes after the oil producers?

But it is OK because he finds people who don't smoke and gets lung cancer credits from them and sells them to the tobacco industry. The tobacco industry can produce their cancer causing crops without concern for their customers.

Now the DEMS have congress do you think they will ban the production of cigarettes?

Hardly a different topic when the right wing dweebs continually spin out w/ the same tactics on each & every issue they pick up.

My current top 5 right wing principles that NO ONE can argue against...

* Tobacco does not cause cancer
* Tobacco is not addictive
* Banning smoking in public places will destroy business & the nation's wealth
* Fluoridated water is poison
* Man-made pollution does not cause global warming
* Global warming is a myth
* Trees cause as much pollution as mankind

(yeah, I know, there's 7, not 5, but their math ain't no better than their science)

But, please, tell me how Hollywood is destroying all of Western civilization... before you go see that next movie or TV show you can't miss, LD

27 Jul 06 - "A new type of volcano may be heating up the floor of the western
Pacific Ocean," says this article posted on National Geographic News and on
Yahoo. (If you’ve read my book or tracked my web site, you know that’s
what I’ve been saying for years -- that underwater volcanoes are heating
the seas.)

"Scientists suspect the new volcanoes occur at cracks in tectonic plates caused
by stress as the plates slide past each other.

"A group of small volcanoes called petit spot volcanoes has been discovered far
from the tectonic-plate boundaries (like mid-oceanic ridges) that often spawn
volcanoes, earthquakes, and other geologic activity.

Geoscientist Naoto Hirano's team believes that the source of these volcanoes is
melted rock from the upper mantle, which has been squeezed through cracks in
the tectonic plate above.

"This type of [activity produces] tiny volcanoes, possibly now active, on the old,
cold subducting Pacific plate," said Hirano from his office at the Scripps Institution
of Oceanography in La Jolla, California. "This petit spot volcano theory suggests
that this type of eruption can occur wherever the oceanic plate is flexed."

"These small volcanoes may be widespread on ocean floors where the mantle just
under the crust is squeezed out by tectonic forces when one plate moves under
another, the researchers explained.
Underwater Volcanoes Heating the Pacific Ocean

"Dubbed "petit spots," these new types of volcanoes are difficult to spot using
satellite technology. Specific geophysical and sampling expeditions would have
to be carried out in order to locate them," Hirano explained.

Scientists working in the southern Atlantic Ocean have found a 407 °C hydrothermal vent, the hottest yet known on an ocean floor. Expedition leader Andrea Koschinsky of International University in Bremen , Germany , and her team found the hydrothermal vent just south of the Equator on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge at a depth of 2,990 metres.

The vent is located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the African and the South American continental plates are moving apart at the relatively sedate rate of 3.2 cm a year. In the Pacific, by comparison, the Pacific and Nazca plates are speeding apart at some 15 cm per year.

The accepted wisdom has been that faster plate movement leads to more volcanic activity at the spreading site, says Colin Devey, a member of the team and a geologist at Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences in Kiel , Germany . The discovery of this hotspot will change people's thinking, he says. "The accepted wisdom is wrong."
