The stock rally that trump continually bragged about and attributed to himself since he took office has been wiped out. Pretty sure you won’t hear him make any reference to this situation. I expect even the most dull witted of his followers are aware of this and rethinking about voting him in again.

He will only mention it to blame the Democrats.

That’s an easy bet to make.

Wait... hows that fair?

I'm not a Trump supporter or anything but he didn't create COVID-19 which is the reason for what's happening in the market.

This is kind of how Justin Trudeau talks about Harper's time when Harper had to pull through 2008 crisis which brought his average down.

I mean, up until COVID-19, the market was doing quite amazing.

it's as fair as him taking credit for the up swing in the Market, no?

I think you generally name a bull market or recession after the person who is in power. If that is the case, we had a Trump bull market and we now have, or are close to having, the Trump recession.

LOL. I don't recall the tech bubble being called the Clinton Bubble (albeit his VP apparently created the internet), nor was the Global Financial Crisis called the Bush-then-Obama Global Financial Crisis. Markets go up and markets go down; just my opinion, but understanding why they go up and why they go down is much more important than trying to blame (or credit) a person for when it goes up or down.

I don't remember anyone named "Great" during The Great Depression.

He has been bragging about the rise in the Market like he was the one creating the economy, so the opposite should be true.
It's not the virus per-se, a large part of this is his inability to actually lead when the chips are down.

Exactly. He took credit for something that was not of his doing. Only fair he should take the blame for the crash.
True. Also, he actually tried to add to the stock market bubble by pushing US Fed to cut interest rates for over a year. Maybe they listened to him last year, maybe not, but for a fact it's the cheap money and the greed that allowed the market euphoria. Bubbles tend to pop suddenly. COVID-19 was just a random trigger.

I guess that means we'll have to call it Trudeau's recession, too.

Instead of trying to score stupid political points, how about recognizing this is a world wide issue?

One thing that is a given. The party in power will take credit for the good things and blame the party not in power for the bad and the reverse is also true.

We would all be better off if we ignore the personality of the candidates and focus on what they want to accomplish and if they are in office how successful they are on accomplishing those things.

That is how I vote and will continue to vote regardless of who the candidate is and what party they are in.

You make very good sense in the normal "sense" of things DHB.
Problem is the two idiots who rule this country and the one south of us, both have very questionable personalities to which
either is not the way I would start out wanting to know what they are focusing on to begin with.

You know its just all gotta be bad. On the other hand if we had real governance with solid minded and
grounded personalities, I'm all in with ya bud. That's what I'd be looking at seriously.
Love your point bro, just we have no one to fill those shoes as yet.

albeit I do like our conservative mla out here. Seems like a guy who's on the straight and narrow with
good ideas and wants to help push trudope outta office.
Let's hope so as I will be following his ideas in the future to make my decision for the next election.

I know what you mean. It's like the same when the CO-19 came out he said we have it under control, it's not a problem.
Too......I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic, it's a pandemic. His own words.:puke::tsk::tsk::tsk::tsk::tsk:

No politician can really claim that they've helped the economy as usually they are the beneficiaries of the previous administration's policies. However, with the present incumbent in the USA I'd like to blame him for everything and throw as much mud in the hope that some of it will actually stick and influence the voters!

I think this thread just point out what is the real problem with our political systems. We spend all our time throwing blame and focusing on personality and very little on what is being done.

So I challenge the people in this thread to limit the discussion to what the administrations of Canada and the US are doing, should be doing and should not be doing. Then I think we can have a worthwhile conversation as appose to a whining session.

I will start out with:

They should not be pointing fingers and blaming others and promoting themselves.
They should be focusing on the problem and how they are going to solve it.

What I think the US is doing well is communicating with the public. I think the panic that could come from this situation can do far more damage then the disease itself. The best way to avoid that is to communicate what we know and what we are doing and what people can do to help with getting through this in the most positive and productive way.

As a lower 49er, I completely agree that communication is paramount...unless the info being communicated is chock-full of half-truths, 'hunches' and outright lies. POTUS (or POS) only cares about himself and getting re-elected, so whatever he says must be looked through that prism. He was given the opportunity to soothe the psyche of The American people when a reporter (Jennings) lobbed him a soft-ball about what he could tell the frightened public what his administration could do to ease their fears...#45 instead attacked the reporter.
That asshat is now using any opportunity to include the phrase 'Chinese Virus' (even members of his cabinet are adopting it) instead of COVID or Corona.

So, yes communication is critical just as long as The Liar in Chief isn't the one doing it

Well said GolferJohn.. it shocks me that he was elected to begin with. I am shocked that people actually voted for the guy after the shit show that was his election campaign

I guess it just shows us how much people hated Hillary.
