Although I am fairly proficient on the computer, I have never understood how these work. Can someone give me a walkthrough, or some tips on which program works best - something fairly easy to use - for downloading from torrents?

Thanks...

As well, what file format does a movie have to be in order to burn it to DVD, and what programs work best?

Muchas gracias...
:D

Torrent software: BitLord, BitComet

File format for DVDs: AVI (this is a better quality I think)

Torrent works like this: they have servers. these servers only help peers to connect to each other. they are always online 24/7. each seed must connect to a server or servers. once you want that torrent, these servers will connect you to the uploader. then you will have a direct connection with the seeder. so torrents is P2P. the servers just act as middle guys.

I'll try to explain it in laymen's terms. You can pick up the tech jargon later on.

First you need a torrent program. Download uTorrent for PC or Transmission for Mac. They're both free and there are no worries about viruses or spyware in either program - I believe they're both open source and have great reviews. Both have small memory footprints so they won't hog your computer's resources.

After you install the program, go to a site like thepiratebay.org and search for whatever movie/album/software you want to download. Once you find it, click on the link that says "download torrent" (or something to that effect). A file with the extension .torrent will be downloaded onto your computer. This contains all the info for the torrent program (uTorrent, Trasmission, etc.). If the download doesn't start right away, just open up the .torrent file - double-clicking should do it - and the program will do the rest.

A couple terms to know are "seeders" and "leechers". When you're browsing for downloads, it should indicate somewhere on the screen the numbers of seeders and leechers. Simply put, seeders are the number of people you can download from and leechers are the number of people downloading.

You say you're pretty computer savvy, so I assume you can figure out the rest. It's pretty straightforward once you get started.

I hope this makes sense. Have fun!

Since downloading movies off the internet is illegal :D Hypothetically you can get a program like utorrent and once that's installed you could hypothetically go and use a site like isohunt to search for the stuff you want, you then download a very small torrent file off one of those sites which then directs utorrent to find other users on the internet who have the stuff you want it then starts downloading from these users.

As for the hypothetical movies that you hypothetically downloaded off the net they will almost always be packed in a bunch of 50mb files you then have to unpack these files using something like winrar. After it unpacks the files into one file that file will almost always be in a image file.

To burn an image file onto a disk a program like nero works. You click create image and then click the file then click burn and there you go.

So there is a quick run through on how you can hypothetically download an illegal movie off the net :D

downloading movies or music on the internet is NOT illegal in canada. burning it and reselling it for profit is.

search for FXG or axxo on mininova.org movies uploaded by these people are good quality.

Generally speaking a movie by AXXO will be about 700mb, small enough to burn onto a cd, not a dvd. some movies will get up into the 4-5gb range but those are bluray movies.

Actually, believe it or not, but I don't want it for Hollywood movies. I don't believe in downloading them cheaply.... music on the otherhand.... :p

There are loads of good explanations out there if you google "how torrents work".
This is your first post???

Thanks for the info, though.... :D

Www.cheggit.net for porn
Www.demonoid.com for everything else
Both sites require registration, but are FREE. Cheggits accepting new accounts right now so join. No annoying add banners, tags for the porn, so if you wanted lesbians high heels Asian, you can search for porn with that specificly and everything has screens shots taken by the poster so you know what your downloading.

You need to register on a day they are accepting new accounts.
The BEST sites.

For programs to download with you can use anything really, try bittornado, very simple, for better managnent there I'd vuze though it is clunky.

Have not province
Probably one of the best site for downloading porn is www.puretna.com. Almost all movies there are categorized and have descriptions of file size, movie dimensions, and most importantly, screenshots.

A lot of material there is user-modified compilations and specific scene rips of a favourite pornstar from a movie or site-rips, or daily updates from popular porn sites, dvd's, blu-ray rips, high definition 720p/1080p movie rips, Japanese AV rips, mature, classic vhs tape conversions, picture sets from Hegre and other high resolution photo sites, homosexual, transexual, BDSM movies, etc etc.

I've already downloaded about 1 terabyte worth of torrent material over the years thanks to this site. I'm sure in today's day and age it's easy to fill up the hard drive! The most important thing though is to maintain your ratio of uploaded/downloaded. No more rapidshare/megaupload/etc for me!

Hey, at least I got SOME entertainment in this crappy town! :p

My preference

I currently use www.isohunt.com as my torrent search engine. It compiles a list of torrrent links for you to click and d/l from.

D/L azureus and then go to town.
btw best dvdrips I think come from axxo, fxm, fxg or diamond. R5 files are good too. Some really good quality video available on recent movies however the sound is still probably off a cam.

anyways just my two cents.

Utorrent is my favourite program for torrenting. I prefer private sites like what.cd and waffles.fm to public ones. They're invite only though. ThePirateBay and MiniNova are good for public ones.
Speaking of which... I'd love an invite to waffles.fm if anyone is offering...

op:

Basically you download a program (like any of the people who have listed here), install it and launch it, and then go find your torrent.

Personally, I just google '_______________ torrent' and try to find one with positive comments (some sites also have an option to 'flag' for viruses). I'm not TOO worried about viruses because I use a mac and I back up my files daily, but I've never had a problem anyway. Right, so, you search whatever, say, "Photoshop CS4 Mac Torrent" or "The Cars Best Of Torrent" or "Thumbalina Torrent" (or, "porn torrent") and then find a site, click the download link. It will download the file to your desktop.

Now, you open the program you downloaded before, and drag the torrent you just downloaded into the window. It goes to work. The progress bar should start working like any download. However, sometimes you find the torrent is dead (nobody is hosting, or 'sharing' it) and then you can either wait and hope or just go find another.

Good people 'seed,' or keep the torrent program running afterwards, so other people can download it from you - it's the only way to keep things going! Personally, I always seed a file for at least as long as it took me to download. I turn my computer off at night to save energy and I also use a lot of programs that use a lot of memory, so sometimes I've got to shut all my other programs down, but it's important to seed so that files can stay active.

Downloading is sweet but I still go to the theater when I can as I enjoy the the atmosphere. Please support your favorite artists and actors when you can.

My question is are some torrent search sites better for certain categories (movies/apps/*P*) versus others?

My favorite download site is BTJunkie which is approrpriate as I am a Bit Torrent Junkie. For movies, aXXo are usually top quality but I have found lately that there is an aXXo imposter.

Lately I've taken to downloading movies and storing them on 16 gig flash drives that I buy on sale at Future Shop or Best Buy. They run about 50 dollars and I can store about 20 full length feature films on a single flash drive.

God I love the internet.
