tipping????

alright so i have a question about tipping.

when picking up a take out order or going into a place and ordering a take out order and waiting for them to make it up then give it to you, would you tip? if so then how much? to me it seems a bit redundant in this instance. i mean its getting be you have to tip everyone now all the time for doing their job.

now before everyone jumps all over me here, when in a restaurant sitting down and having a meal i always tip big, usually always over the suggested 15%. but i'm not really sure what the norm is when picking up a take out order. if it was delivered then of course i would tip the driver.

any thoughts?

There isn't really a set stone on how much you tip a driver but I usually go around 10 percent. Only reason why I don't like to tip drivers is because I am paying them to deliver the food in the first place. If it was free delivery...then I have no probs..

As a food delivery driver, there are many good tippers out there in Vancouver. However occasionally we will get a customer who believes we get the full delivery charge. We don't. Some get a portion, some get nothing. The delivery charge is misleading. It should be called, a fuel surcharge due to increasing costs of products related to high gas prices. Unfortunately most employers won't put that on the bill. So who suffers, the driver, cause some customers look at their bill and think, oh, he's already getting a dollar. The exception to this rule is KFC, where they claim the entire fee goes to the driver. In this scenario, I will take the usual tip(10 bucks) and subtract the delivery fee. I also base the tip on politeness, enthusiasm, presentation, and quickness.

And to answer the original question. Don't tip the when getting takeout, unless its a owner operator situation like a hotdog guy or something.

now as I see it 5% if you pick up or wait for your meal 10% for delivery if it is within the time stated or sooner and it better be hot. 15%+ in a restaurant depending on how fast I get my first drink. don't make me or my table wait for drinks.

Did I not hear a few years ago the tax man, collects taxes based on at least 8% of the tip earners sales for the night or week, or month, something like this? It was something about people not declaring close to their actual salary? Does the tax man really charge taxes on this 8% at the paycheck?

If working at a casino, the casino payroll takes taxes on tips at $4 per hour.

So you get your hourly wages less taxes, then another deduction for tip taxes based on standard tax rates for your bracket.

This seems fair only if you are making tips of $4/hr or more. Most make more or we wouldn't see casinos keeping their dealers and so on.

This seems to be standard procedure now for any jobs that the government expects the emplyee is making tips, such as hair dressers, bartenders etc. They get you everyway they can.

I tip when I eat in and I tip the delivery driver whether there's a delivery charge or not but I never tip when I pick up the food myself. Seems silly to me to tip someone for such a minor interaction, kind of like giving a tip to the clerk at a self serve gas station for taking your money.

I am a regular at a local Greek place and since I give a decent tip when I pick up, if I choose to pick up on a busy evening....my order does go to the top of the list.

I hate places like Boston Pizza. They charge a $3.00 delivery charge, but this money does NOT go to the driver. They must still rely on their tips. I wonder what extra charges Boston Pizza incurs by making the meal up for delivery? Can you say Rip-off?

I was wondering what to tip a bartender at a bar.

For cabbies i give $10 on a $7-8 fare, & $15 on a $11-12 fare.

Similarly for restaurants and pizza delivery.

Most times I won't tip however last week I tipped the waitress that took my takeout order.I assumed she was making minumum wage and relied on tips She seemed dissapointed I wasn't sitting in to eat so i gave her a tip.

What pisses me off about tipping is seeing a tip jar on the counter after I paid a covercharge to get in the bar. What the fuck am I tipping them for?

Went to see Jim Burns a while ago at the Yale if I hadn't slipped the bouncer a 20 we'd still be inline and thats on top of 15 dollar cover each, so no I don't like it but what can u do

If I'm doing takeout from a nice sitdown place and I pick it up myself, I still provide the same tip as if I actually dined there. Why? Because when I leave tips in restaurants, I'm going by the assumption that the tips also go to the cooks who actually made my food.

If I'm getting a pizza delivered to me then I tip around 10% - 15%, same as a taxi driver.

Ok, just wanted to ask what people tip for valet parking? Does it depend on the hotel/ restaurant or whether it's free or pay parking?
