My experience with sales people is...

I feel like I have bothered them, or they have something else to do but are obligated to help me first.

Their knowledge of any given product is passable to fukk-all.

They are just grunts. I do my own research before I enter the store and if I knew how to work the cash register I wouldn't need your dumb ass at all.

sales people (mostly the little blondie type chicks) who mistake their work environment for the local bar. Ummm look here baby cakes I'm not trying to hit on ya I need some fukkin help, this is what your gettin paid for...right?!?!?!?

Props out to the sales people who don't fall into any of the above.

During high school and university I spent 6 years in retail thank you very much.

If its that bad then quit and move on. Sure I had shitty days or weeks but its retail what the fuck did you expect? No one should ever be abused but this false sense of entitlement pisses me off. There's a continuum of jobs and their inherent value and benefits and retail is close to the bottom. Why because thats what our free market economy feels they're worth.

Hate to break it to you but its not just retail where you have asshole customers. Don't you think the asshole who nickel and dimes the clerk is the same way in business? Pricks and assholes never shut themselves off.

Like you said, they're trolls. Fuck em.....they're the ones with the problem. When I had customers like that I did one of two things. Usually patronize the ever loving fuck out of them, when possible with other customers around, and make them look like the slug they were. Or if there weren't any other customers around I'd tell them in no uncertain terms to fuck off and get out of the store. They'd usually make a big flap about that, get all pissy and demand to speak with the manager. If they were around I'd call them into the situation and let them know the customer had an issue and IMO would be far happier if he spent his/her money elsewhere. And if the customer started to rat me out about telling them to fuck off I'd deny it.....who's the manager going to believe. Some dink of a customer who's beaking off or me

I can honestly say that I'm a great customer when it comes to dealing with staff. I'm more than happy to be patient with a clerk as long as they show that they're trying regularly write emails or letters of thanks.

That argument only goes so far. Second last time I was in future shop I was standing by the mp3 players waiting for service. Three clerks were working in that island and none of them were with another customer. They were all just gabbing away and not interested in serving a customer. I waited for 5 minutes, during which they all made eye contact with me but still didn't come over to see if I wanted anything. Finally a Bell rep asked if I needed anything and I said yes. When the clerk finally did come over she was rude and insisted they didn't carry the product I wanted (even though I could see it in the cage behind her). That sort of behavior has squat to do with management understaffing, rather its management either not training people well enough or not setting certain standards and enforcing them.

Again, bullshit!!! Unless you're a government employee we live and work in a free market economy. If the market feels a clerk at bestbuy is worth $12.00/hour thats what they'll get. If they're legitimately getting exploited thats why there are labour boards.
if you don't think these workers are being exploited then maybe look into bc labour laws. i don't see too much in there that is positive towards the worker. also i'm not trying to make you look old or anything and please correct me if i am wrong but i am pretty sure you are older then i am and it is posible that you worked this environment in a slightly more civil time in history.

i can remember when i was a little kid that people could make livings and careers off of being just a regular old retail sales employee. my father who worked in a mine had a couple of buddies that i remember specifically. one worked in a electronics store and the other worked in a pet/fish store. we would go to their houses to visit and these dudes just worked those jobs and they had nice homes and cars and the like. they had everything my family had and my dad had to risk his neck working in a mine for it.

show me a retail employee (non manager) that can make a decent living off of retail today. i'm not saying that you are a bad customer or anything like that cause i don't even know you but i was just trying to make you aware of things today. i'm fairly young still and i still have a few buddies working retail and the stories they tell me about work equate to hell on earth in my opinion.

also yes the people that come into the store that are assholes or bitches are like that in biz too but the difference is that you may have to deal two or three a day where as retail at a busy location is dealing with a steady flow of them.

also i did see on dr. phil one time (no i don't usually watch the show it just happend to be what someone else was watching) and he had on people that were embarrassed as to how their so's or friends treated service or retail employees. these people on the show seemed very charming and pleasant everyday people but they had them on hidden camera and the way they treated people in service industry was appauling. when push came to shove the reason why most said they did it was because it made them feel good to treat someone else like shit.

anyway in retrospect i can see you made a broad generalization but i just wanted you to see the other side of the coin before classing retail people or everyone at future shop as a "cock gobbler".

lol, sorry for my rant but its still fresh on my mind. haha retail killed my inner child.:p

I live in Alberta and I'm actually very disappointed in recent legislation that has lowered the age at which children can work. Even me, a money loving capitalistic weasel has ethics regarding employment standards and IMO kids under 16 have no place working at a "real" job. Paper routes, baby sitting, mowing lawns are fine. While I disagree with what Klein has done I have to respect that our laws are made because of public input. I've made my voice known and would assume others did likewise. If you don't like legislation the don't post about it on a hooker review board, write your local MLA.

I guess I'll just have to cut you in half and count the rings. Seriously, based on you being out of retail for 11 years ******removed to keep people guessing*****. As for times being more civil when I was working......how the fuck old do you think I am? When I was a youngin I didn't have Leroy working for me in the cotton plantation

I couldn't agree more, but the employer is only part of the problem. Employees today (specifically in Canada vs the US) view retail as temporary and just a way to pay for school. If they viewed it as a long term career the employer would be forced to compete for talent along with other professions. While I loath the store walmart is a good example. They have a great program to take junior management employees and educate the poop out of them (i.e. MBA programs) and as a result expect and get long term loyalty.

I disagree. I think what has happened as retail evolves in Canada is we're just expecting more. With greater choice comes greater competition. Even though they're owned by the same company, carry the same brands at the same price I prefer to shop at BestBuy over Future Shop. Why, because the staff have a far better attitude. Unfortunately the closest BestBuy is a damn near an area code away so I spend more dough at Future Shop.

IMO any "doctor" who goes by their first name (Dr. Ruth, Dr. Laura (who I hope has a special corner of hell waiting for her), Dr. Bob, etc) is by no means a barometer for healthy social behavior. That said Dr. Phil (unlike the other's mentioned) is actually a trained medical professional and of the lot probably the most credible. And yes there are people out there who get off by being assholes and simply put they need to be donkey slapped back into something resembling a decent human-being. These are the same fucks who like to cut people off in lines or traffic, don't follow the rules while playing golf and are generally annoying to everyone else. What actually astounds me more than their behavior is the fact that they can con someone else to date or marry them.

I'm sorry if you've misunderstood me. My cockgobbler comment was directed more at the management types who decided to go the next step with their technology and rolled out the web ordering/store pick up service. Retail operations today collect TONS of data about our shopping habits and demographics and its about time the use it. As a perfect example Radio Shack (who I absolutely can't stand) were anal retentive to the 8th degree in collecting customer information for every stinkin purpose. Did they do anything with it? Hell no.

I appreciate that some retail employees have a shitty deal but what I won't tolerate is shitty service.

Still curious how old you think I am, I may have to turn down the "crusty old fucker" factor of my posting

I don't know about smackyo, but I always had the impression that you were middle-aged and up. For whatever reason, whenever I read your posts, I get this picture of a larger built, white guy with a slight pouch and white hair that is starting to thin a bit. Kind of like Bruce Allen, actually.

Sorry if I offended you.
