I just want to wish everyone all the best in the coming year!

This last year has been a blast for me, partly because I finally discovered PERB. I'm what many of you would consider a fairly old guy, mid fifties, I think that's young 'cause that's how I feel but I've got a lot of very pretty young SPs to thank for making me feel that way. Thank you ladies and you know who you are!

Because of my age though, I've been a bit of a Ludite when it comes to computers. Until last year, I would avoid them anywhere and everywhere except at work where I had to use them.

That is until I discovered PERB, early last year. I have been pooning off and on for the better part of 30 years but it was a very private secret life of pleasure until last February.

I discovered PERB and I couldn't stop posting, it was like 30 years of pent up emotion about this pastime exploded out of me. Witness over 1000 posts in less than a year. I know many of you probably thought it more than a few times in the last year, Bad Santa, shut up already!

But I just couldn't help myself, PERB really is an amazing online community with a truly great cast of characters.

I would like to thank Fred Zed for creating it and all the Mods for doing such a great job to keep this board alive and vital!

We members of the client & SP community are one of the last parts of our society that some in the general public think it's OK to revile and dump on, just because we have the courage to live and enjoy our right to have sex with one another for an exchange of money, as consenting adults. And until PERB and other internet boards came along, we usually felt isolated and alone in a hostile world.

I'm thankful we now have a venue where we can talk to one another frankly, openly and oh so colorfully! I have to say it, I love this place, with all its drama, disagreement and controversy but also with its friendship and mutual understanding.

You younger members, don't ever take PERB for granted, it's a privilege for us to have it. There are forces out there that would love to see us shut down in a minute and forever, witness what's recently happened to Craig's List Erotic section. Don't kid yourselves, PERB and other boards are now squarely on those fanatic's target list!

Support it, value it and in your way contribute to PERB, with reviews, by being an advertiser, by simply participating because you never know when those fanatical bastards out there might try to shut us down so they can make us feel alone and isolated again.

Again, thanks to everyone on PERB who has helped to make this year a blast for me! And to anyone out there who still does feel isolated and alone, I invite you to come in from out in the cold as I did last year and join our great PERB community!

And Fred, thanks man for making this place work so well!

Cheers everyone!

Sex, sin and Craigslist [Good Article]

Lisa Kelly and Heidi Matthews
Sex, sin and Craigslist
Lisa Kelly and Heidi Matthews
From Thursday's Globe and Mail

In response to requests by Justice Minister Rob Nicholson and four provinces, fuelled by lobbying by groups opposed to prostitution and human trafficking, Craigslist recently removed the “Erotic Services” section of its Canadian websites. The action mirrors Craigslist’s removal of “Adult Services” from its U.S. websites following an open letter by 17 state attorneys-general lamenting its support for the “scourge of illegal prostitution.”

While illegal in most of the U.S., prostitution is legal in Canada. Communicating for the purpose of prostitution only constitutes an offence when it happens in a “public place,” such as the street or a park, not a newspaper or website.

Some Canadian politicians were concerned Craigslist “could facilitate” crimes involving child exploitation and human trafficking. Charges should be and are laid in Canada against persons who advertise for, and profit from, such exploitation. But persons can only be charged with aiding or abetting if they encourage anyone to commit an offence or do, or omit to do, anything for the purpose of aiding another to commit a crime. There is no evidence that Craigslist has such a purpose. In fact, Craigslist has a strong record of co-operating with police by providing electronic information used to track down suspected abusers.

Shutting down “Erotic Services” is counterproductive and in bad faith. Following the section’s removal, traffic to other less-monitored websites advertising sex services spiked. This scattering effect hinders investigation and prosecution of actual cases of exploitation.

Governmental intimidation of Craigslist is a heavy-handed move that will likely result in increased violence against sex workers. The Ontario Superior Court recently struck down as unconstitutional several prostitution laws, including the communication provision, on the basis that they “materially contribute to the decreased personal security” of sex workers. Online advertising is crucial to sex-worker safety because it allows for effective client screening. Many sex workers require new clients to provide referrals from existing clients, references from other sex workers, and confirmation of identity.

The anti-Craigslist campaign is part of a backlash against progressive developments toward decriminalization of prostitution-related activities. Concerns about exploitation mask the larger goal of eradicating sex work per se. In casting all sex workers as coerced women and children, the anti-prostitution lobby homogenizes a diverse industry that includes consenting adult men, women and transgendered persons.

Targeting Craigslist perpetuates a strategic narrative of saving and punishing, where vulnerable women and children are saved and parasitic pimps, johns and traffickers are punished. The impulse to punish and save lies at the heart of Western theological and colonial traditions. Viewed in this light, the conservative approach to sex work is part of a civilizing mission that reduces participants to either saved or fallen, victim or perpetrator
.

This simplification denies the complexity and prevalence of transactional sex. It thereby restricts the range of social and political responses to the root causes of real vulnerabilities. Alternatively, improved immigration policies and support services for trafficked persons, empowerment of first nations communities, increased funding for drug addiction and mental-health services, and implementation of a national childcare plan are measures likely to decrease sex industry-related exploitation.

We should all be concerned when government uses its power to pressure private corporations to excessively limit legal forms of expression.

I'd also like to express my thanks for the kind words - except that I can't stop the sniffing and crying from all the welcome sentiments.

BcMod - isn't there a rule somewhere that says we have to ban anyone who makes a mod all weepy?

Thanks again Fred! Isn't it funny how whenever these anti-prostitution do-gooders bring in some new law or edict like shutting down Craigslist or passing anti-soliciting laws it actually hurts sex trade workers rather than helping them. These bastards say they want to help sex trade workers when they in fact couldn't care less about them.

They definitely have an "agenda" and it's not about helping sex trade workers. Quite the opposite. In Sweden they lock the girls up in re-orientation centers where they treat them as if they have some kind of mental disorder and they have to brainwash them into leaving the trade.

And then there are the religious fanatics..... Welcome to Saudi Arabia North!

I need to toss in my "Thank you" also. I had never been to BC. I'd heard about how beautiful it is up here but had never made the trip, even though I was often only a few hours away from Vancouver. For reasons that are lost in the fog of my memory, when I went looking for someone to spend some time with a while back, I stumbled on this board and the "other" board with the new name. I had not even considered coming to Van but after using these boards, I found someone to visit and headed across the border. Since then, I have visited several of the more beautiful parts of BC with my new friend, enriched the local economy far more than I should have, and had an incredibly good time. I've also learned all about how "fun" it can be to transit back and forth, especially with the sub-humans employed at the crossing.

So yes, thanks Fred, for helping to create the most unexpected, interesting, enjoyable, exasperating, annoying, woudn't-miss-it-for-the-world set of experiences I never thought I would have. I don't know whether to shake your hand or punch you! lol

Seriously though, this is an amazing community and you and the Mods deserve unreserved thanks for making it possible.

I too have to say a big thanks to the Mods and Fred for this site. Perb is a wonderful resource for Pooners and SP's alike.

I remember by first pooning experience. The year is 1980. Picked up a SW at the Hotel Georgia Stroll. Thought I would have great sex for $250.00. It was over and finished in 20 minutes. That was a quicker cash extraction than getting a root canal done!! Anyhow if Perb and The internet had of been around I wouldn't have been turned off the hobby for the next 20 years. Now life is great. A little research before the date and a good time is almost always had by all.

Thanks Fred.
