"Canucks hire Daniel and Henrik Sedin as special advisors to the general manager"...

1624412601264.png

It’s been in the works for weeks, but now it’s official: Daniel and Henrik Sedin are back with the Vancouver Canucks.

The Sedin twins retired from the NHL in 2018 and took a break from the hockey world for three years, instead focusing on their families, as well as running trail races and marathons. Now they’re back to bring their extensive experience and hockey knowledge to the Canucks’ front office.

The official title for the Sedins is Special Advisors to the General Manager.

It’s a similar path to the one taken by their former teammate, Roberto Luongo, with the Florida Panthers. Luongo was named special advisor to then-Panthers GM Dale Tallon in 2019, then was named the General Manager for Team Canada at the 2021 World Championships, where he won a gold medal.

Trevor Linden when he was hired as President did a lot to make the team competitive again. Former players as execs is not a bad idea. I think a lot of GMs and Presidents are former players. JB I think wasn't a bad d-man.
Hopefully they don't treat them like they did Linden! Use them as an escape goat when Benning fails again! He might not have been a bad player, be he is a shifty GM!

The beautiful Fraser Valley !

Let's hope not, as this is just a political ploy by Benning to garner some sedimental Attention away from his ineptitude .
The Sedin's are great Human beings ! But, they've been completely out of the Game for three Years .
How does that help the Management of the Team ?

Benning should have been fired after not making the Playoffs, in the seventh Season, of him rebuilding the Canucks! The fact that He let a talent like Tyler Taffoli get away, for essentially nothing, tells the true Tale about his ability to evaluate Talent ?

Tyler's happy old Jim couldn't tell the difference between a Pylon, and a great Hockey player . LOL 🤣
He's a game away from a trip to the Stanley Cup final . And I'm glad He reminded Jim of that, everytime the Habs played them this Year !

Mr Q

P.S. Was that supposed to be Shifty or Shitty GM ? Shifty would be giving Him too much Credit ? LOL 😂

Haha! No it was suppose to be shitty. The twins have already said they are pretty much gonna be yes guys to Benning.

Linden was also suppose to be sentimental value too, to boost season ticket sales. He didn't agree with Benning so they got rid of him. Aquilini's are a joke as a owner group!

Linden was basically hired for the “fan appeal” and to be the face of management in front of the media, as both Benning and Aqua are horrendous at that. The minute Linden wanted to get involved in hockey decisions it was the beginning of his demise.

Sadly, the same is in store for the Sedins unless Aqua grows some and cans Benning at the end of the season!!!

I liked Linden and I like the Sedins. Respect for all that they have done for the Canucks—as players.

Respectfully, Linden was unqualified for the role he was hired to do, and it’s pretty unclear just what the heck the Sedins are hired to do (and what the necessary qualifications would be). Fan favourite and great puck-handling skill doesn’t mean you you can effectively transform a floundering organization.

Managements’ fault more than anything. Employee beware.

Totally agree PM. The successful players to management such as Yzerman, Bergevin, Rutherford all had extensive experience before getting the big job. Linden had some business success and was head of players association when he was playing but was hugely unqualified to be President. Hopefully the Sedins are brought along slowly. Realistically I don’t know why they’d want the job?!?!

A paycheck??
Hiring them on, means eventually they should listen to them. Why because they can spot talent better then a washed up Benning.

You mean the twins are doing it for free.....
And if you read above, most people/fans believe that Benning hasn't helped the team.
And the last sentence, JMHO.

Hiring the Sedins is just a weak ploy by Aquilini to try to improve the Canucks brand..Linden was hired the day after the fans were chanting " Fire Gillis " at a home game. My impression was that back then Linden wanted a complete rebuild while the meddling owner thought the team was good and just needed "retooling". Hence Linden was shown the door and really has no cuttent relationship with the Canucks.Seven years later and the team still is mediocre at best. I blame the useless owner for butting his nose into hockey decisions when he isn't qualified. So you end up with yes men in your hockey management instead of hiring qualified people.
