I just heard on the radio that the major banks (Royal, BMO, CIBC and TD) earned ridiculous profits last year but have contributed less than $1 million combined to the tsunami relief effort. WTF?? Let your banker know that you are not pleased.
problem is they will just up our service charges one more time to make up the difference anyway ... this is why i am against the govt providing relief efforts out of my pocket and the same with businesses like banks!
RBC gave 1 million dollars to the U.S.A in the wake of 911. So let me get this straight, they give 1,000,000$ to the richest country in the world and a stick in the eye for southern Asia. Its all about return on equity or in this case charity.

CIBC has reviewed their original donation and has increased it accordingly. Please be assured that CIBC will continue to monitor events in the region and will act as is warranted.
I heard on the radio yesterday that American Express was going to waive their fees on all donations using their card from now until April. Visa and Mastercard, however, were still going to deuct their fees, then give the money from the fees to the charites (which makes it a tax deductible donation for Visa and Mastercard), and only until the end of January.
