I want to hear about sea salt!! I'm a health junkie. I normally use himalayan pink salt but I have a back-up bag of Bob's Red Mill sea salt I use when I'm out of pink salt. My backup Bob-salt is labelled it's from purified Pacific sea water..Is this safe? If I'm putting garbage in my body I need to know!!!!
It depends on where the intake for the evaporation plant that makes the salt is. An intake off of Victoria, for instance, would need a screen to prevent toilet paper being drawn into the evaporation plant. http://thetyee.ca/News/2015/01/26/Victoria-Raw-Sewage-Dumping/

There are a lot of municipalities that dump raw sewage (no treatment at all) or masticated sewage (run through a grinder before dumping) directly into rivers and oceans.

A lot of people don't think about the reason that governments have added iodine to salt. http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2012/06/why-iodine-is-added-to-salt/
Iodine first began being added to salt commercially in the United States in 1924 by the Morton Salt Company at the request of the government. This was done as a response to the fact that there were certain regions in the U.S., such as around the Great Lakes and in the Pacific Northwest, where people weren’t getting enough iodine in their diets due to it not being prevalent in the soil in those regions. Among other problems, this caused many people to develop goiters (swelling of the thyroid gland, also sometimes spelled “goitre”).

About 90% of people who develop a goiter do so because of a lack of iodine in their diets, so the simple solution was to add iodine to something pretty much everyone consumes fairly regularly, namely salt. This practiced was not thought up by the U.S., but was copied from the Swiss who were adding iodine to salt at this time for the same reason. This resulted in researchers at the University of Michigan testing this practice out with good results and subsequently Morton Salt Company adopting the practice on a national level.

This ultimately didn’t cost Morton and the other salt companies that followed suit much money, only a few cents per person per year in iodine, but drastically cut the number of people who developed goiters in the United States and beyond as the practice gradually became adopted throughout much of the developed world. ...

... Even though most people get plenty of Iodine in their diets, because Iodine is so critical to our bodies functioning properly and the Tolerable Upper Intake Level is so high (about 1100 micrograms per day, and you won’t take a fatal dose unless you ingest about 2 million micrograms, or 2 grams), adding it to salt is still recommended by many government health agencies the world over to stave off certain health problems.

Specifically, Iodine is a critical element used by your thyroid in being able to synthesize certain gland secretions which, among other things, influences your heart, metabolism, nerve responses, etc. Further, a lack of iodine during pregnancy and in the baby’s diet after being born can cause a myriad of significant health and developmental problems. Iodine deficiency has also been linked to increased difficulty with information processing, diminished fine motor skills, extreme fatigue, depression, weight gain, and low basal body temperatures, among other things.
People that are on non-salt diets, like me, should ensure that they get enough Iodine. I take one Iodine pill a week.

Why the coalition is losing against ISIS:

This highly trained troop is ready to dazzle the media with his aggressively decorated weapon.

Christy won't give up that 1 billion in transfer taxes, won't stop shipping all that coal to China either...
i agree, we're idiots

some notes on coal here:

Markets for British Columbia coal include Asian countries, especially Japan, China, South Korea and India, as well as countries in Europe and South and North America. Most of the coal produced in southeast BC is transported by rail to the Westshore Terminals export facility south of Vancouver. Coal from northeast BC mines is transported by rail to Ridley Terminals Inc’s export facility at Prince Rupert. Approximately two-thirds of the 2011 production on Vancouver Island was destined for international markets and was shipped from facilities on Texada Island in Georgia Strait and Neptune Terminals in Vancouver.
http://www.mining.bc.ca/sites/default/files/resources/icoal2012-2_1.pdf

please note in technical writing, a list (of in this case, consumers) is always given in decreasing order of size. so the largest buyer of bc coal would be japan, not china.

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
Haven't heard much lately about what the Russians are up to.
I have no use for Putin and realize he likes turmoil n the world. It makes him look stronger to the Russian public and allows him to spew his propaganda about only he can defend Mother Russia.
Given Putin controls the information the Russian population gets ,I'm surprised the Russians haven't ramped it up in response to that downed airliner.
While they seemed to be bombing anyone who was against Assad, I figured the Russian would go in and lay waste to ISIS's entire region and not have to suffer the public backlash Western leaders would regarding collateral damage.
OR
Are they quietly at work n the area with teams of commando's/special ops and we just are not hearing about it?

It's probably a Toyota HiLux, that's the most common "Technical" in the region.

lol, I thought that people would notice the way the guy in the foreground has wrapped his belt of ammo around his LMG. He's not getting that gun into action very quickly and yet he's on a defensive line anticipating an ISIS attack.

Russia has had ongoing intense warfare with Islamic separatists for several years. Remember it was Islamic "freedom fighters" of the Taliban that got the USSR out of Afghanistan. The spinoff war in Chechnya was as brutal as the Iraq war.
None of it gets any attention in Western media.
The downed airliner was simply the latest of many terrorist attacks on Russians. There have been worse ones in Moscow than the Paris attack. There was an attack and hostage situation in a Moscow theatre in 2002. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_theater_hostage_crisis
Russians are hardened and resigned to this crap. They also have it right on their doorstep. Canada and the USA have the benefit of thousands of miles of ocean and continents to insulate us. Imagine if the Syrian war was going on a few hundred kilometres away.
We are very lucky to be able to be so complacent.

The Russian Parliament only authorized Air Strikes, although Putin has surrounded the air base with some pretty potent ground forces. Putin stated in an interview with CBS that there are about 2000 fighters from various areas of the Russian Federation and that he doesn't want them to return to Russia. It was pretty clear that his target list was the units that had them.

I hope that all of your friends family & relatives are safe! For many of us, the idea of "Paris" is just that...an abstract representation of a glorious historical romantic city; for you, it's home. My thoughts are with you today, because you are Paris to me.

xox
Thank you Erica.
I haven't lost anyone in my first-degree circle.
That is, as far as I know for now.
What a romanticized and glamorous picture the world has of Paris.
I left Paris 6 years ago as I didn't like where things were going with insecurity and racial tensions.
Friends and relatives laughed.
How it breaks my heart that what I had envisioned is starting to happen.

I am adding to my restrictions:
* chatting about the Paris attacks
* chatting about why I moved here and why I don't contemplate moving back - ever
* listening patiently when you talk to me about insecurity in Vancouver

Those who know me bear with me.
I shall return to being my happy self shortly.

I used to follow the news and politics closely...but last couple years with so much ever increasing Evil in the world I've tuned it all out and just hide in my own happy-bubble of positivity.
Can someone kindly PM me when WW3 starts? If it hasn't already....

Some people may see this as selfishness... which on some levels I'd agree... but sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do & for me blocking out negativity is a survival-coping-mechanism. I just can't handle the truth of what humans are capable of doing to other humans...and all other life on this planet. It's horrifying..
And your mental health is no doubt better for it. Good on ya. Though you would have problems in some of my classes as a result.
I tend to be with you on the food comments as well, though i'm not as particular on buying organic food. GMO cross-species is a scary experiment, and very large food conglomerates are only in it for their profit. It is a dangerous experiment... which makes the thought of moving somewhere like New Zealand (quiet backwater that it is), somewhat tempting. Hang on, thats where I grew up and couldn't wait to escape from...

In terms of when WW3 starts, I'm not sure if anyone will be certain on that one, though there could be arguments made that we are in it already. There is economic and cyberwarfare going on at the moment that isn't readily obvious to the average person. The nature of what war is, is changing, and definition of what is meant by 'war' is probably needed. But, if you go back through the centuries, warfare has been the norm rather than peace.

I worked in New Zealand for just about five years and the joke at the time was … will the last one out of New Zealand and into Australia please switch off the lights!!

Putin has ordered his forces to cooperate with a French Carrier Group off of the coast of Syria

I have to admit I got very nervous when I read this news earlier this morning. Shit is getting real.

I realize Russia was attacked recently and they need to show that they can not be messed with just like France. However, once the Russians go in, it will be extremely difficult to get them to leave.

They never left. Syria has always provided Russia with a Mediterranean Port. This is what the US has never understood, just like the Crimea, Russia was never going to risk losing their port. The downing of their aircraft and the attack on France has just given them the excuse and invitation to vastly increase their military solution to ISIS and to ending Syria's civil war.

Israel is probably silently cheering. The US was hanging them out to dry, now Russia will remove the threat.

To this point they have only had a toe in the water presence.

Sending a cruiser to the area is significant asset to deploy seemingly so they can send missles from 'The Moscow'.

Pissing off the Russians is a bad idea....They don't have the same morality in War as we do...
If they kill innocent people, it's looked at as unfortunate, but unpreventable.
