I now there's some sharp dressed members here. Can anyone suggest somewhere to buy a nice suit in the lower mainland for a wedding? It's time to update my look and it's been a long time since I've bought. For a while now I've skated by with the same few suits and have mostly managed to avoid getting invited to formal events. Admitedly I haven't done any research. My two bests suits are a Strellson and a Andrew Fezza. Where I bought before are no longer in business. With my budget I'm not sure I can buy something similar. My limit is $1000. Thanks in advance.

IMO, $1,000 won't get you far unfortunately. I think Samuelsohn from Harry Rosen now runs about $1,400 or so.

If you don't wear suits often, the J Crew suits are excellent value. My next suit is probably from J Crew.

Take a drive down to Seattle and give them a shot.

Alternatively, Suit Supply is supposedly decent. I've never tried them, but read quite a few good reviews.

Yes, suit supply would be my recommendation. Probably no better value for quality vs price. Some of their designs can be a little over the top, but their Napoli design is pretty much timeless. I got a charcoal Napoli a year or so ago and when I took it for some final tailoring the tailor was very impressed with the quality. Just google suit supply and Wall Street journal.

I've never tried Suitsupply, but they are building quite a following.

Go onto youtube and type in Harry Rosen and fit of a suit to pull up the 2 videos on how a suit should fit, then go down to The Bay and try on a couple of different brands to confirm your size. Go up and down at least one suit size to confirm the shoulders. If you stand 5"7' and under, go for a "Short" and if you are average height, go for a "Regular". If you're around 6ft, you'll probably need a "Tall".

Only adjustment that can't be made is the shoulders. They can adjust the length, but it won't look right if they chop of more than an inch. If the waist has to be taken in any more than 2 inches, it also doesn't look right.

If the difference between your chest and waist is greater than 8 inches, you should go made to measure or bespoke to get a proper fit. That will put you up over $1,000 though.

As for colour, get a solid charcoal grey. It's the most versatile. Stay away from black as your only colour. Too harsh in the day, especially if you have a light complexion. Besides, black is what everyone wears in the service industry. You don't want to be mistaken for a waiter.

I think if you can swing it, I think Samuelsohn suits at Harry Rosen start at $1095. They really are a bargain for what you get.

Thanks! Funny you say because I was mistaken for a waiter once at a wedding reception. It's exactly as you described. I was wearing a dark navy suit. In the evening, it probably looked like black.

You could also check out Indochino.

was about to suggest same but they've had more
than their fair share of bad reviews than positive ones on yelp.
I'd be cautious w these guys. it seems that they have incompetent tailors
just from going through the comments.

my suggestion to OP would be Harry Rosen.
once the suit is bought, make sure to find
a reputable tailor for alterations.
