Hi, there's a thread in the Massage section of TERB where people are talking about performing facials on girls. Some people have said it's a good way for the girl to get a STI (specifically herpes was mentioned), but I was skeptical. I just want know the facts. I did some research on the net and I couldn't find much.
So I wanted to ask here. Does anyone know if there are risks of STI's to the receiver from a guy performing a facial on her?
Thanks so much.
Hi Purejoker
With a facial the risk would be of getting some infected fluid in your body. The easiest way it would get into the body would be from a permucosal exposure, basically this means you would get semen (cum) in a mucous membrane such as your eyes, nose or mouth. The eyes would probably be your biggest risk. Getting cum on intact skin should not be a problem but it would be good to wash it off as soon as possible.
Semen can have HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C in it. This means if you got cum in your eyes it is possible that HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C could be transmitted to you.
I have found a lot of research about the risk of HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C from getting blood splashed in your eyes. This is from occupational exposure studies that have been carried out as a result of health professionals getting blood splashed in their eyes. These studies have showed that there is a real risk of getting these infections if you get blood splashed in your eyes.
We can guess that if blood is a risk to the eye from the above infections then semen will also be a risk as it can carry the same viruses. The only difference is that the concentration of virus in the semen will be different than the concentration in the blood.
In the case of hepatitis C there is less hepatitis C in the semen when compared to blood. So the risk of getting hepatitis C from semen in the eye would be much less than if you got infected blood in your eye.
Keep in mind that the above is a theoretical risk. It would never be possible to design a study that examines this risk as it would be unethical. Also I think there is not much data out there about how often this happens. When people go for a sexual health checkup or participate in a study there are questions about risk in regard to what types of sex they are having e.g. oral, vaginal, anal etc. To my knowledge people are not being asked if they had someone cum on their face and if that happened, did they get cum in their eyes.
There have been cases of people developing chlamydial conjunctivitis (an eye infection caused by chlamydia) after someone ejaculated (cummed) in their eye.
I have found some studies that have shown that the herpes simplex virus can be detected in the semen but it is hard to know what the risk is. It is the number of viruses present that would be the main factor. I have never had a client present to the clinic with a herpes eye infection but at the same time I do not know how common facials are.
Just wanted to point out that someone needs to have these infections for there to be any kind of risk
What to do if you get cum in your eyes.
The first instinct would be for someone to rub their eyes. It would be best to avoid this as this may irritate the eye and make it easier for the virus to get into the body. It would probably be best to rinse the eye with water.
Summary.
To conclude, it appears that getting semen (cum) in a mucous membrane e.g. eyes, does carry some risk of passing on some sexually transmitted infections. The only problem is that the exact risk is unknown, but it would be much lower than having unprotected vaginal or anal intercourse.
With facials it would be best to avoid getting semen in any mucous membrane, and if it did happen to get in the eye, do not rub it but rinse it out with water.
