We need to go to the private sector to help raise the funds necessary to restore Stanley Park to it's former glory.
And, based on the original estimates, the cost of the Millenium line would pay for those restorations 350 some-odd times over.
Ya gotta wonder.

I saw that Jimmy Pattison was willing to match donations up to a million dollars. He said as a child he spent a lot of time there.

Shit, he's so fucking rich, why doesn't he just donate 1 or 2 million himself. It's not like he needs that much money at his age. 1 or 2 million is a drop in the bucket for him.

you would think with all the revenue the city makes charing 8 bucks an hour for parking they'd have the money to take care of business

What about all the timber that has fallen? Obviously, there is a financial value in that and wouldn't the financial proceeds of the logs go towards the cleanup / restoration of Stanley Park?

As far as value in the " timber" that has fallen, it can't be used for anything other than firewood. The length's the clean-up crew cut the trees to aren't much good for anything other than firewood. No logging company is interested in 12 ft logs.

Why does everyone have their nuts in a twist trying to fill open spaces in SP? I thought that's what we were all here for.

Well, after yesterdays winds, there will be more happening...

Hey, wasn't RAV a PPP? heh....guess the stanley park estimate will skyrocket if it goes PPP too...

Remember, acts of god that interfere with Liberal policies and ambitions are the fault of the NDP. no matter what...

And...While mr. Pattison has more than enough money to donate, why doesn't every other rich fella in the british properties do the same? The idea behind matching is to get other people involved... ideally he would offer more, but if all his neighbors did the same...well... that's a much bigger help...

The news profiled a company in Courtenay who make custom fir flooring and would be happy to buy the wood. They indicated they would be bidding on it and they werent the only company. I can't see why the city is wasting time, the longer the wood sits on the ground, the lower the value.

That's a good thought. Why isn't any one else rich stepping up to the plate?

Yeah - like Impark who rake in shitloads of money all over the city - including Stanley Park, can raise their rates any time a special event takes place and have a virtual monopoly.

In the meantime, the forests in the rest of BC are devastated by the pine beetle, wiping out the livelihoods of thousands of people who work in the forestry industry, and not a peep.

Stanley Park Fund Raiser..

They should give ALL the money to the homeless....
bit of irony here, but MANY of the homeless live in Stanley Park ...

by clearing the windfall and stuff the homeless can move back home.
