Don't know how many board members watch the Sopranos but WTF, did you see the finale ? I called Shaw to complain because my screen went blank ! They received an email from MovieCentral in anticipation of tonights episode. The ending was exactly as produced !

My take is that all 4 family members are killed in the restaurant by the guy who followed AJ into the diner. He probably went into the Gent's to get his piece.

Found it unsatisfying myself

Expected a bit more.

Laughed when I saw Phil get whack and then run over.

My feeling is that the whole family gets whacked, that is why the screen went black. I think the idea is that just when everything appears to work out and their guard is let down they all get iced.

Or I could just go with what I truly feel, the ending was a screwjob.

However I was soooo happy to see that fucker Phil get whacked!!!!!!!
Yeah, I was hoping Phil would get his. I also didn't care for the ending. Everyone will make their own conclusions as to what may have happened....I don't think one can assume that all of the family get's killed though.....don't they usually go for the mob guy and leave the family alone?

It was OK until the end, that just plain sucked!!!!!
What also sucked, and was painful for me to watch, was Meadow trying to parallel park her Lexus IS! Yikes!! That's my car

cumon people, it's obvious!

The cameraman got whacked!

That's why everything went black.

I'd heard a lot of talk about the finale being considerably longer than usual, so it makes me wonder if we got the whole thing or if you had to have actual HBO to get all of it or something?

Completely satisfying.

I thought the ending was perfect. It would have been so cliched to have the family, or at least Tony, taken out in a hail of bullets.

The way I see it, the ending just reinforced everything that had ever happened. Tony is/was the center of everything, but no matter what happened, he and his family always seemed to come out unscathed. It was always the other people who paid the price (Sil in hospital, Paulie worried about his mortality taking on the new crew, etc).

To me, I think this was about as damn near perfect an ending as they could have filmed.

I was kinda hoping that Rhiannon would whack AJ.

Should anyone as useless as AJ really be allowed to live? He's a waste of carbon emissions!!!

sopranos ending..

i gotta admit i was pissed when i saw the end.

but now that i think about it...it was perfect. no matter who david chase killed off, or whatever resolutions he made there was no way ANYONE would be happy with the way the series ended.

i loved leotardo getting whacked.

didn't really care what happened to AJ, or meadow for that manner.

but there was one interesting little tidbit no one has mentioned yet.

earlier in the episode tony visits with carmella and we see AJ and his girlfriend leave the house. anywhoo, tony and carmella are chatting in the kitchen and tony is peeling an orange.

david chase once mentioned how the film "goodfellas" is his bible. he originally wanted to cast lorraine bracco as carmela sopranos, but she had already played the mobsters wife role in Goodfellas and was eventually cast as Dr. Jennifer Melfi. Oddly enough, Ray Liotta was the top choice to play Tony Soprano.

Anyways, back to the oranges. in the end of season 1 we see tony buying orange juice before the attempt on his life. in the godfather, marlon brando buys oranges before he's shot, there is also an orange in his mouth when he dies. at the end of the godfather part 3, when michael corleone dies, an orange drops from his hand.

food for thought i suppose. oh, and as squid mentioned, we see the guy that followed AJ into the restaurant head into the bathroom just before the fade to black. in the godfather, Michael Corleone retrieves a gun from the bathroom before he murders the men responsible for attempting to kill his father.

The ending was left wide open for a possible movie in the future, just an opinion

carbon emissions, would whacking him get you a carbon credit?
I dunno but I bet that if they continue with this kyoto BS, the mafia will be cranking out fake carbon credits by the truckload and raking in the cash from the eco-morons.

Trust the resident Nazi to turn a fun thread about a TV show into a partisan political dumping ground.

Holy fuck you are a pathetic creep.

I thought it was a sublimely perfect ending to the series. How could David Chase possibly have ended it in a way that would tie a neat little bow around everything and all the viewers would walk away satisfied? It couldn't be done. So he let us write our own ending. Absolutely brilliant.

The on this PERB are much more insightful than those on TERB...

with all due respect.. and whattayagunnado

Mr. Chase knows all to well that you can not please every body...
so you got to please yourself.. Well done Mr. Chase. We all have
our versions on how we would have liked to see it end. I would have
liked to see a light-hearted morbid end to the show. Meadows car blows a tire from
her constant wedging of the tire against the curb. (which would sound
exactly like a gunshot). This would give Tony a massive coronary. Cause
A.J. to vacate his bowels while screaming OH THE HUMANITY!!!. Or instead
of Tony having a heart attack, have him gagging/choking on an Onion Ring,
which would be brought on by a combination of the tire blowing, the stench of
A.J's blessed event of crapping his pants. Cut to black. I would rather see a
preposperous demise to Tony than a violent one.

If you needed a nice tidy ending, you have been watching the wrong show for the past 8 years. Or maybe you've been watching too much CSIs.

It is not like an open ending is breaking any new ground. But it was such a fitting end to a TV series that is often ambiguous. Was Tony about to get whacked right before the screen went black? Or the fact that the screen went back signaled the end for Tony? Was David Chase putting us in Tony's shoes for the last 4 minutes feeling all the tensions in that dinner? The feeling of accepting that you will be forever looking over your shoulders. I loved the ending.

One last thing, I can't get that Journey song out of my head this morning.

Thats what I heard is the most probable reason.
Big bucks in going from small tube to big screen.

Like everyone I was surprised when the screen went blank but I like the fact the last episode wasn't just a whack fest. It's much more interesting this way than to have everything all tied up in a neat bow.
