So much for day trips to the US

That's what us poor B-tards down here have to go through to visit up north...not too big of a hassle, but timing is critical
Lots of free discretionary testing down there makes it easier for Americans mind you, but still a hassle. Feds will drop the inbound testing requirement eventually—probably when public opinion shifts on the matter. Aside from pleasing Canadians wanting to take day trips, they need to drop the tests sooner than later to encourage more visitors from near and far.
I just might shell out the $200 to get tested up here, knowing for certain I’ll be able to get back in the same night. Driving straight to the closest free testing center down there could justify staying a few nights though too.

It's pretty confused right now.

Mixed doses including one of Pfizer one of Moderna are unclear as to whether the States are ok. There are stories that WHO sanctioned vaccines will be accepted but ... US border officials can interpret things in different ways and can fuck up a trip, worse can add you to a list of concern.

Testing. So we go down to the US for a day of shopping, come back and have to buck up $200 for a test? As has happened recently to an acquaintance of mine spending 3 weeks at her place in the Palm Desert. Fully vaxxed too. That one is on the Canadian border guy.

Considering it's what, $1B a day of general trade and a good chunk of that is consumers on day trips, you would think "they" would get this figured out a lot more quickly than what is happening now.

It's been a long haul, not over yet, but I think the stats are such and precautions as they are, we should be good.

They are posturing and blowing hard right now, but there are a massive number of organizations lining up against the testing requirement. The Libs will cave at some point, just a matter of time. There's too much money at play here with cross border tourism.

If you take a test in Canada on a Thursday and get the results back on Friday you can make a day trip to USA on a Saturday and come back same day using the same test result as far as I know.

Canada just requires a negative test within 72 hrs to come back.

People are bitching about the test requirements, but they seem to forget that the vaccine is only around 90% effective. We do need to keep our guard up, even if inconvenient.

Yeah.. but a $100 test for a day trip is kinda lame.
$150 from Lifelabs is the cheapest I could find. I’ll be going for a few nights first trip so will be worth it. Won’t be long before they accept an instant test or drop the requirement all together. I think it’s more about warming the Canadian public to the idea of foreign visitors than suppressing disease at this point. Just a matter of time till public opinions shift.

How stupid and pointless is the test then? You can be infected while in the states and bring it back.

Just a moronic cash grab that doesn't stop any disease transmission.
