Wander out to the University of British Columbia and you are always treated to some event, promotion or cause.
The best entertainment can always be provided by the cause.
Years ago one it was the Hetro's vs. the Homo's. The Homo's with their 'gay-pride' promotions and membership drives. And the Hetro's countering with their 'born to be a breeder' campaign.
Last month it was the booth providing information about the third world trade in female slaves. Their most prominent sign proclaimed, "Did you know that, on a daily basis, you can buy a woman for as little as $200?".
(I told the attendant that I did not know that and I asked if this is where I could order one... all I got back was a look of abject horror and disgust)
Lately, however, the emphasis has been on religion.
For two weeks groups promoting Islam have been set up in the Student Union Building. Framed by large posters extolling the vitues of Islam and Mohammed, attendants freely gave away flyers, pamphlets and an english translation of the Koran. There was even a seminar presentation on the life and death of Jesus Christ from the Muslim perspective.
Not to be outdone, this last week gave way to the Jewish faith.
Set up in their own booth, the proponents of Judaism had Canadian and Israeli flags, flyers, buttons, etc.
(I looked for a copy of the Torah - to add to my now growing collection of religious works - but no such luck)
There was, however, the most innovative and creative give-a-way specifically designed for the University student.
It was perfect.
It promoted Judaism and threw in a little tourism promotion for Israel. All packaged around an item EVERY university student would want.
Without further ado, allow me to present...
