I saw this add for a bartender at a privet family party and some of the people they wanted to be served alcohol were underage .

AS I understand it is illegal to serve to underage ,al though I think parent can give there young adult alcohol ,, but they can be found liable if ant thing happens ,, like drunk driving , accidents , injury to others or death to others.

what is the legality on this if you are hired . and payed .

Do not do it. Aside from legal issues there is a moral concern here. What if something bad happens like alcahol poisoning, or a car accident etc and you contributed to it? Whether or not you were legally liable the guilt and responsibility cannot be avoided.

As a parent I would say avoid it, I will let me 17Yr Old sons have a beer at a family BBQ, but thats my choice, I am their dad and I am with them. When we go to mexico I may let them have some drinks there too, but once again, I am their dad and thats my responsibility, I wouldn't let them go somewhere knowing they were going to be served alcohol, and I would be pissed to find out they had been somewhere and been served.

How was this ad worded?

Help wanted:
Experienced bartender wanted for family party.
Must be well dressed, professional, and willing to serve kids.

No you should never serve kids. If their parents are okay with older kids having a beer, they can get it from the bar and give to their child.

Let them steal booze from our parents like our generation......pampered brats expecting to be served by a professional! or is it the parent's fault for accommodating them?

Here and There
Its illegal to serve under age people alcohol. Took 2 seperate bartending classes and that was told to us in both (iirc), and yes as a bartender/server you are responsible for how drunk someone gets and what they do (to an extent). It's like selling cigarettes to minors, the vendor is the one that suffers the consequences.

In establishments which serve alcohol and allow minors (such as a restaurant) a minor is allowed to drink alcohol, but it must be ordered and served to a legal guarding (ie a parent) who may then pass it off to said minor.

The Supreme Court ruled a few years back that a party host was not responsible for the actions of a guest who drank too much and then crashed into someone while driving home. The rationale was something like "the guest does not check their autonomy at the door".

Not sure how this would work with underage youth, though.

I was not going to do it I was not comfortable with doing that..
I a agree it is up to the parents, If they allow there kids or young adult to drink then they can give it to them a social function that is what my parents did .. But then i don't drink as per say .

Maxx, if you're hired and paid....no good can come from this, especially if you've had previous run-ins with the cops.

Also depends on which province you're in... some have different legislation for who is considered "responsible"
