I couldn't believe it myself-but it really happened...
I agonized over whether to take the night off to go see Roger Waters for months then decided at the last minute and called in sick.Unfortunately I got to GM late and there were no scalpers anywhere to be seen.I got to the ticket window just as it was closing-yes,there were really good singles to be had the day of the show. Not cheap though. The girl reopened for me when I tapped on the window. After forking over my $161.50 I headed into the show. One of the first people I met was a good friend who invited me into his luxury box. He's a very well off guy,a great business contact so I told him I would join the party upstairs after checking out the show from row 10,section 105-very good club seats.I just like to be close to the action!
When I got to my seat, the show broke for intermission.Being close to the floor already,I figured I'd go down to the first row and see if an opportunity presented itself. It did,and without giving away my secret(s),I was able to get onto floor level.I wandered around for a few minutes then took a seat near the sound board at the back. When the lights went down I used my years of accumulated knowledge of crowd psychology and outright subterfuge until, yes, believe it PERB-ites,yours truly was front row center at one of the best concerts in this town in a long time. The music and emotion washed over me wave after wave.I was transported to another world. The Great Gig in the Sky was in and out of me.It was more than music.Heaven on Earth, really.
When the show was over I was physically and emotionally drained.I'm still on the high,a week later.Maybe I'll never come down...don't really want to!
